Red Rock Canon Live Lens Mount real world test

Nope, 300 is focus by %$#! wire. Can't use it at all at this point- had wanted to use it (with 2x) on the Space Shuttle...

Thanks for the clarification Brian, the Microremote looks amazing! Does it allow you to program and save the focus pulling details for each lens, so that once it's calibrated the first time you can switch lens to your hearts content without much time wasted?

Yes - without getting too far afield from the topic at hand, you can save and recall lens calibrations. Initial lens calibration can be automatic (for lenses that have hard stops) and manual (for those that don't like ef lenses).

For more info on the microRemote check our microRemote facebook page at facebook.com/microRemote

@groveChuck - wow I find it hard to believe a lens of that caliber is focus-by-wire. Not great for motion but it probably snaps for stills autofocus lickety split.

Thanks

Brian

Wow sounds like a beautiful lens. One of my pnj lenses is the FD 55mm f1.2 - they don't make 'them like they used to

Cheers

Brian

It's very solid, balances well on the AF with it's weight, and has a long focus throw, plus of course manual aperature (which I need to get declicked). It can 'bloom' on the AF (and my GH-13) wide open, so is best stopped down a tad. Cracking image though.

i go the requests - ride the iris - nd and iris change. Photos of adapter. And some real world footage - working on all of that for you guys

actually some lenses frome canon may not comepletely be compatible
e.g.
the 17-40 2.0 is a varifocal lens . so when zooming, the focus is fixed electronically to make it parfocal

how is this not campatible then-
focus wont hold when zooming out unless on a canon body or with electronic control.
but yes it will still work on the red rock mount just not up to its full potential. (aperture only)

birger has figured this out.. but of course they're over delayed.

Great test and photos, Seth, thanks!

What do you think of the gradations (1/3 stop?)- do you find you can hit the sweet spot of exposure?

Also, how do you find the +/- operation of the unit, and the readability of the display?

You have the battery velcroed under the top handle? Was that recommended by Red Rock or what you came up with?
I suppose it makes use of the handle a bit tricky?

Many thanks again for doing this- much appreciated!

This gadget suddenly has my (and my four L lenses') attention...

I wonder if a wheal would not be more appropriate than pushing buttons on top of a lens to adjust aperture while shooting.

since the changes are discrete and not flowing I dont think it would matter - I dont think these lenses are designed for smooth rolling of aperture so you wouldnt do it when shooting anyhow

Hey guys,

Just a heads up, the LiveLens MFT is shipping today!
