RED reservations mark

Emanuel

Cross-Examiner
Donatello already posted the 1073 figure. But he posted he's not sure of this number considering what he read crossing these boards and coming from somebody's signature.

Two weeks later, I'd like to know if there is any closed mark by now regarding how many reservations we have until last 31st October.

Jim, sorry my "we have", I know this is your project (well worthy) but we feel as ours indeed. As it proves all the talk around this project (you can't imagine how many people is talking, changing ideas, e-mails, phone calls, at back and crossing all these forums, even those damned ones if it's possible to call it at all :)). And I think it'll be when the camera will arrive to our hands. I mean effectively ours.

BTW, E- check your e-mail, your box is full.

Please, don't take this as critisism, I'm not a native speaker myself, and there will certainly be some spelling and grammar errors in my posts, so I'm not falling over that. I just cannot make anything of the sentences above. I'm curious of what you are trying to say.

(Interestingly, Filmmaker1977 seems to have no trouble understanding it, while his posts are (sometimes) abracadabra to me too. Do you perhaps share your native background?)

Of course not. Don't worry! It's already a trade mark. I believe it's 'cause we share the same language root, grammar construction etc. Portuguese, italians, spanish or even french (though they already have other influences coming from their native geographic position) people have a different origin than the languages from the north of europe like english, german, scandinavian languages or dutch, for example, that I believe it is your case, right?

What I wanted to say is: there are a lot of talk about* this RED project. People outside these boards but coming from here and from other ###.net and ###.com forums are interacting: sending emails, exchanging** ideas or making phone calls etc 'cause this camera. And this happens including from where it would be supposed (following all the interests involved) to think otherwise. Even if there all the people with who I've been talking share the same indie POV.

The other part is coming from private (or maybe not) discussions concerning what we want or it could occur on this project if...

An indie art friendly tool (ours) ? -- more run and gun, EFP style?

Or strictly cine-style? -- less affordable for low and no budget moviemaking but not for the mainstream and 'tough' industries, more oriented to the rental market for instance? (not ours)

* And not exactly «talk around» -- according the freedictionary.com:

talk around
1. To persuade: I talked them around to my point of view.
2. To speak indirectly about: talked around the subject but never got to the point.

But in our native tongues «talk» and «around» together can have precisely the opposite sense.

** Exchange over here (latin countries) is applied only to the money :cheesy: not idea(l)s... I'm kidding! (also to people, experiences, etc) :)

EDIT -- The typical example is the «English As She Is Spoke» work:

I haven't yet received any confirmation of my 2 reservations, one each sent in on the 27th and 31st. The payments have gone through, but nothing yet :(.

I really hope I have an R combing to me.

Emanuele, look at your signature. You can most definitely say that RED is also your project. You can't say it is a much yours as it is for people in the labs and so on, but your $1000 in their pockets plus the certainty of an other $16,500 upon delivery makes you a financeer of this project. They must defenitely appreciate the $1,071,000 in their bank account. The coming of an other $17,671,500 might be playing a bigger role that we think in their freedom to push and push further than initially projected. Thanks to you guys, the Red team is not looking back, and has all the more motivation by wanting to show their gratitude to believers like you. So in a way, all of us that might have the chance to partake in a 4k project much sooner that it seemed we would before this camera started materializing but haven't put money down on it must then thank you too.

I thank you guys.

Glad somebody notice that US$1.1millions is in their account, that's a large amount of a working capital with no interest! Just hope they can appreciate that and give more attention to the reservation holders, even if they don't have the status, skill and experience of David Stump and all other experience DoPs. Ask them if they are selling them to only DoP or anybody that give RED their trust in terms of cash?

IMO - those with reservations will get far more value/benefits in the long run then any interest they could have earned in a no risk CD/money market account ... i think the appreciations are mutual ...

if one wants to look at it as $$$ .. your $1000 is safe - refundable at any time- no reason needs to be given.
when camera's ships ( and i would say once they give a ship date you could sell it in advance) you can sell your RED for more then you paid = profit and IMO much more then the interest on $1000 ...
if RED doesn't deliver then lets say you could have earned $50 interest if it was in the bank for a year = you're out $50 ...
you hold on to your RED - start using it ...

there are NO background requirement to buy a RED = any BIG name DP or a person that doesn't know a camera from a auto can buy it ...

Ian - send RED a email about not receiving confirmation ..

i believe RED has to make more "R"s

I agree and I'm sure any body who have put their money down felt the same way too, merely saying that if this is your marketing strategy and people trust that RED can do it, then don't answer questions with short answers, elaborate a bit...

Elaborate? That's what they've been doing. There are some things they need to keep close to their chest for a variety of valid reasons, but we have known almost everything they know as they know it.

Hey, cut them some slack. I want them to be good camera makers, not good forum members (thought they seem to be adept at accomplishing the latter along the way too).

For sure. We don't have the same goal and needs. Each side would/will push in order to serve the different interests involved as far as it gets. With just one single but big difference. We -- the indies came first! :) We were the first to believe in Jim Jannard as our provider and I'm sure he knows what this means!

It is, I'm dutch. How did you find that out? I thought it wasn't in my profile... (tune from Twilight Zone)

Oh, I need to attach my signature as well... I need some shouldertaps myself. Oh, that's a dutchism. I mean a tap on the back, of course.

"They're not sure if they will be making more Rs."

at the screening i asked about the "R"s and they said they were making more ...
and as we all know things can change anytime ...

It´s been stated by Jim that they made the titanium "R"s only for serial 1-1000.

No big deal. As europeans we can just try to know something more and about our brothers allover this old continent. 'cause your name it wouldn't be difficult to get the origin of your name. BTW, I have more than one friend with your first name: Floris. Good dutch people. I miss them. In portuguese we say: «saudades» :)
