RED Raven 'Brain' on sale for $2,225 @ FilmTools?

Bought one immediately, ha.

Most likely an accident, but could not pass up the opportunity just in case they close the "deal", but honor the existing orders.

The order number describes it as a deposit. So $2225 instead of the normal $995.

Doesn't matter since RED doesn't take any new orders.

This looks to be a legit savings/offer, but as mentioned by everyone, it's most likely a mistake.

It doesn't seem like it's a deposit regardless of the MFR#, but it's moot because RED disabled the orders a while ago as you mentioned.

Only explanation is they ordered tons of cameras, but then it wouldn't make sense to sell them this low (as someone pointed out) as they would have hundreds of people ready to buy for $7K+.

Probably the most wanted camera in the world with hundreds (thousands?) of static pre-orders...not possible, haha.

(And the normal deposit via RED was $500.)

The Raven story is a bit surprising.

Yes, the price was "aggressive" or whatever we'd like to call it. But it was a solid move to gain brand recognition in MUCH wider circles than with only more expensive cameras. I would have expected RED to really step on it and try to expand to meet demand. Like Eric says, once you're on the ride, you'll probably find yourself the proud owner of $15000 worth of accessories before you know it.

You would still be up and running for around $7K-$8K (if that miracle of a deal was legit), which would be insane for RED.

We obviously all know what the current popular camera bodies cost, plus their own accessories.

I (and probably 100 other people) ordered one, haha, but we're all expecting refunds tomorrow morning.

It's most likely a mistake they won't be able to honor. If it was another camera like an URSA Mini or something, maybe, but not the RAVEN.

I'll let you know what they say!

I ordered one as well, pretty much right when someone posted the deal on REDUser. I doubt they'll honor the price, but hey…who knows? :D

It doesn't matter...it was fun to see what would happen, but in reality one would still be waiting 8-12 months for it. Crazy backed up.

I'm happy for RED's success, but it is a shame they became such a premium product when the initial vision was to bring insane imaging to the masses. But hey, they've got the goods, can't blame them.

Blackmagic sort of took that on instead, hoping their next round of cameras bring out a more fully rounded and refined package for field work. Really looking forward to the inevitable URSA Mini II & Pocket Camera II
