Advertising has a big role to play not only in getting new customers but also in providing the reassurance to the customers who have bought it that they have indeed made the right decision.
Existing customers would like to hear that their camera went through some tough situations and still worked. People feel good when I tell them that I used a C300 in landslides/rain as well as in deserts. Similarly there are other guys who feel good when someone tells them that a Red camera went to some mountain peak and worked at minus whatever temperature and shot in Sahara desert in + whatever temperature. Companies are not going to leave opportunities, especially one as big as sending a camera to space. So they actively encourage/become a part of such endeavours. Nothing wrong with it as long as the advertising by the company is not misleading.
If RED claims something which is not true, then blast them. Else I don't find there is any reason to fight.
