How does the Red camera store the images, what type of format and how big does it need to be?

It captures and stores the image on a light-sensitive silver-coated metallic plate. You have to swap out the plates 24 times a second, yet make sure to hold each one still and in place for 1/48 of a second before replacing it. It takes some skill, but that's the price we pay to be at the leading edge of technology.

but yes.. read that studio daily article.. it is one of the best RED overviews out there... of course alot has changed since that article was released but the basic concepts are still intact.
