RED EPIC's HDRx on Canon DSLR's??

The Red Epic has HDRx video which is basically HDR video, taking 2 exposures and mushing them together to get ULTRA HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE. But its in real time, right? so what I'm wondering is, is that how the sensor is designed, or is that a software development. If so, then is it possible on Canon cameras??

HDRx records two completely separate time-aligned video files at different shutter speeds, A track is normal or shadow biased exposure, X-track is underexposed by 1-5 stops for highlight protection. HDR combining for the final video image takes place in post via several possible work flows, not in camera. It requires twice the data rate, processing power, and file space for any given frame rate and compression ratio.

How the heck does it record two videos at the same time with different shutter speeds?? multi layered sensor or something? So its physically impossible on a DSLR?
