Red Epic..how much do you think?

ok, can you point me to a camera needing everything bought separately and at a premium.

we are not talking one or two items, i was just giving an example.

it is marketed that way, that what everyone is saying. when they compare cameras the first thing they say it costs this much for this vs this much for this.

they will say it costs this much for epic vs alexa or dslrs or whatever.

i have never seen a shoulder mount camera without any sort of input, output, new or old. if it doesn't come with a viewfinder it will come with an lcd, it will come with a card reader or tape slot, or something, it will have audio and video and maybe some time-code input output.

i'm not keeping up with the prices until something solid is released but i thought it was something like sub 10k for the non fixed lens version

Red One?
HPX3000?
HPX3700?
PDW-800?
F900?
F950?

I mean, what are you asking? Every professional camera out there is sold as a body-only, and you have to buy additional stuff to make it work. Look at the Red One itself -- you have to buy the body, and a viewfinder or LCD, and a battery system, and at least now it comes with the recording module, but when I bought it you had to buy the recording module separately too.

To get a shootable package with a professional video camera, it's going to cost a hell of a lot more than just the body.

But the same is true of a DSLR. Look at people pouring $2,000 to $5,000 worth of equipment onto it, to make it shootable.

And the same will be true of the Scarlet. They've already said you'll need $2,000 worth of stuff to make it a shootable package.

So what, precisely, is the problem with that? They've already made that pretty clear.

Last they said, as far as I know, it was $4,750 for a shootable configuration.

But frankly, none of that means anything, because until they put it in the store for sale, there's really no point in worrying too much about anything they've said, because they suffix it always with "it's all going to change."

all the non red camera body comes with audio input, lcd, etc.., even when they don't have something they have the reader or slot for it, you don't have to be a module to add something.

and it's not at a premium.

What about the Red isn't sold at a premium?

And besides, this is all pointless debate, because Red could "change everything" tomorrow. Or the next day. Or the next day.

If you want to hold on to your sanity, it's best to just ignore everything about it until it shows up in this link:
www.red.com/store

Once it's there, you can then see what actually IS and what ISN'T and see if it makes sense at that point.
