Not sure how all these folks walked out of the red tent and decided that it was anything but snake oil.
No images from the camera displayed ANYWHERE. In fact, no monitors at all.
Three glass cases with three hunks of aluminum or painted wood. One of them with a stock lens stuck in the end of it.
You listen to the guy outside run a powerpoint (which is the same as the red.com website). Then they force everyone to swipe their card before entering the little tent. All very secret feeling to build the anticipation (See the bearded lady! The worlds smallest man! Lobster Boy!)
Then they pull back the tent flap and you get...nothin.
But they are more than willing to let you swipe your credit card for a $1000 deposit on a pre-order.
Are you kidding me? C'mon folks...

I'm not quite sure I would call a Cooke S4 lens a "stock lens":)

hey tc,

is that you in the hdforindies photos? the one wearing the csun sweater...can picture you running straight for the red booth at 9am...where's the booth?! where's the f**kin red booth!?
Yep! That was me! I was actually the first person at RED, I got there about at about 8:45, I accidentally snuck in.

it looks like smoke and mirrors, really good marketing for nothing. Also a cool looking camera doesnt mean a comfortable one when shooting for hours.

Yeah, it's called Chapter 11... Same goes for Sony & JVC's line of camears.

(that being said, I'm still loyal to my DVX)

I think that JVC, Sony, Panny.... will simply have to step up to the plate and release all that bad ass stuff they've been keeping in a vault.
They will certainly take a sharp jab in the ribs though.
Vive le RED!

Exactly. Red debuts in 2008. I guess we indie filmmakers are looking for something that is anti-establishment in the sense of pricing and no boundaries. But this Red camera is all talk. The thing that gets me is RED corp. talking for months and me watching banners of red this and red that and wait till NAB. yeah, nab is here and what do we get: MAYA renditions and CLAY models. Give me a freakin break.

AT least build a prototype that is capable of creating actual footage and putting your cards on the table for us to see.

true, but anyone who frequents this site will be slightly more educated on Red then the average broadcaster / filmmaker who'd be at NAB.
If NAB was the first time I ever heard or saw RED, I'd be impressed.
in the meantime, I'm not concentrating on the price of the Red to come down, I'm more interested in the price of P2 to come down :furious3:

i think i read it doesnt come with one, but you can provide a third party one if you like

Man there's alot of hearsay going on about this camera. More DVXUsers need to check the links that were posted earlier in this forum.

Go to RED.com and check out the pics for the RED ONE cage. The viewfinder is on display there.

And one of the coolest features about this camera that i think Issac Brody mentioned earlier is Mr. Jannard's declaration of modulation. He's stated that he doesn't want this to be the kind of camera where they come out with a new model every couple of years. This is the kind of camera that will last a DP decades because it can be upgraded and advanced.

It seems to me that Mr. Jannard is trying to foster a Mod community amongst filmmakers. Red will encourage people to come up with their own awesome accessories. Its a very exciting time for digital filmmaking.

Can't wait for some footage next fall and a working model at NAB 2007.

Also for the people talking about visiontech's phantom cameras. I wouldn't be surprised if the pricetag on that camera was more akin to the cost of a Varicam or Genesis.

Again, I i can't see how anyone could be dissappointed when RED corp has said for WEEKS, they will have a non working prototype on display and will announce the price at NAB. They came through through. I'm not sure why anyone could be upset about the info released

I just chacked again to make sure, and there is not a viewfinder in those pictures on the RED page. Please link to it if I just can't find it.

I read about providing your own viewfinder in the HDforindies article

Too true.

I think I'm starting to understand why alot of companies try to keep development a secret.

The flack Red is catching from certain people is ridiculous.

Here you go bud. Click on the middle picture under the main photo and you'll see a large picture of RED ONE from the back and it shows the Viewfinder.

People let their hopes run away with them. Clearly we all hoped RED would be further along then it is but Jim never said anything to lead us to believe that. It was our fault.

I think those of us trying to decide which camera to get in the lower end line and trying to way the relative strengths and weaknesses of each (it's frustrating as every comparison has said there is no true winner) were excited about something that would make our choice easier and blow away the competition.

That's clearly not the case and now we should have the guts to make a choice and stick with it since this thing probably won't be out untill 2008 anyway. Perhaps then we'll upgrade or perhaps the competition will have caught up. Who knows. Either way, it still looks like a fantastic piece of equipment that, when it comes out, will be well worth the wait.

Is an all steel body going to have light reflection problems? I know it looks cool, but on set, your lights are going to bounce all over that thing.

Am I wrong?
