Red Camera (photos)

Purely out of interest... Who will actually beable to afford one?

I read forums where people were getting pooy about the price of an HVX... and this is what, nearly double the price?

Don't get me wrong, not trying to beat it up, just curious...

(BTW: The $17,500 price-tag seems quite reasonable to me considering what it can do.)

Finally got home from work so now I can get caught up. Those pictures are wild! Not even sure what to think of the design yet. But I know I want one.

And here I'd just bought myself a little orphan to raise... Now I will have to sell him off quick.

Sorry kid. All I see is red :)

This is one cool camera. It really "does" look like one of those weapons in Unreal-tournament though. I like the "cage" concept.

Looking at the price, on the other hand, definately not an Indie camera. Low-budget hollywood film? maybe. Indie-films? nope.

ARe you kidding? RED is vaporware!

Not sure how all these folks walked out of the red tent and decided that it was anything but snake oil.
No images from the camera displayed ANYWHERE. In fact, no monitors at all.
Three glass cases with three hunks of aluminum or painted wood. One of them with a stock lens stuck in the end of it.
You listen to the guy outside run a powerpoint (which is the same as the red.com website). Then they force everyone to swipe their card before entering the little tent. All very secret feeling to build the anticipation (See the bearded lady! The worlds smallest man! Lobster Boy!)
Then they pull back the tent flap and you get...nothin.
But they are more than willing to let you swipe your credit card for a $1000 deposit on a pre-order.
Are you kidding me? C'mon folks...

I agree with you. I don't understand why people are paying $1000 for the posibility that a clay model might one day be built. People at NAB should be paying more attention to cameras like this: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=54732

it looks like Jannard took some serious styling cues from Oakley on this cam

looks dope tho

heard you can add a subwoofer to it which will be called, "Red Thump".

Not kidding, you can add a shoulder shooting mount to it called the "Red Gun". Huge hunk of aluminum that looks like a folding stock for a rifle.

This is not like G35 or Andromeda or any other piece of hardware promised for decades and never ever showing up. The guy making this has some deep pockets and, I'm betting, lots of willing investors. This is gonna be real in just a couple of short months. And - it does look cool!

Come summer 2007 some people are going to be shooting 4K... (and not being able to afford editing it :D)

this guy's at a restaurant convention and has rows of latex burgers. everyone wants to know what the burger's going to taste like. it will be flame-broiled and juicy. why can't i taste it now? please leave a $10 deposit and yours will be ready in a few months...

of course i'm joking...i just don't want this to be like a concept car that you never see.

i personally don't care what it looks like...i just want it to work.

TC, with your agree I made this slideshow with your pics to resme:

sorry to tell you it doesn't look cool. If it was my company I'd wait till I had something better than that. But I guess they still need to keep the interest going and maybe more "investors". I don't think Panny, Sony or Canon will be worry to much about RED.

I've read post after post of people talking about the way a client viewed their camera. It does matter some. But why can't a company do both. If this company ever comes up with something it will probably look better. For $40,000 you should get alittle style too.
