RED Camera Body/ Lens Split

The ability to basically split the camera in half. The lens/ sensor/LCD one part. The user controls/storage/battery/added LCD on the other half. Connected by a cable of length and/or future wireless module. With the added ability to add an LCD monitor to either part.

We're told 7 lbs. for Red one. Add cine zoom lens (some can be as heavy as an HVx200, Cooke 15-40mm is 7.9 lbs.), battery, red drive (currently seems the most cost effective capture solution @<$1000, red ram most likely lighter but probably more expensive judging from P2 prices), filters, mic or wireless receiver, mattebox and we start getting closer to 16mm (Arri SR, Aaton) cine style weight.

The split would make the camera lighter with a smaller footprint allowing it to be mounted in unique areas difficult for the non split version to get to or carried stealthily when a low profile is needed. An ability no other pro grade camera of this type offers.

Allowing for easier car, crane, sky diving, helicopter, etc., mounting and shot control.

Helping aid non shoulder mounted handheld work that won't kill the arms with the controls/storage/battery on the body of the operator or an AC.

For those times when having the user controls at a distance will make life easier.

Won't limit us, if weight is an issue, into using primes or smaller cheaper not as fast but lighter zoom lenses.

The possible ability to use the user control/battery/storage/ lcd half to aid in counterbalancing steadicam without the need for steadicam monitor or larger more expensive steadicam rig.

All other support mounting equipment could then also be of lighter/smaller design and cost.

Could possibly make sensor upgrade user servicable or with the purchase/rental/red loan of another front half no loss of shooting time while camera has to be sent in to be upgraded. Then when returned firmware can be upgraded with included disc or through computer.

When needed, bolt it together again to go back to the Big Red One
