RED Bootcamp

So Jarred,

I am hitting that Christmas slow down and starting to plan out what my future 2007 is going to look like. I am realizing that a RED Bootcamp is right at the top of the list. I am sure you have already given a little thought and research to it. I am sure there are a lot of factors on when the first one could happen. For me I would feel the class would be benificial before I get my camera delivered.

What I am wondering is if you will by chance have a few cameras available to you just before delivery or as delivery starts to be able to hold the class with and when approximately it could be?

If it is possible for Jim to lend you lets say 10 - 15 prototype test cameras to use in the class would be such a huge benifit for many RED reservation holders. I would also think it would be a large benifit to RED to have some already qualified users before they even receive delivery of their camera. It would cut down on all the little user problems we would run into just using the camera cold upon delivery and in turn cut down on the technical help phone calls and e-mails to RED.

If this would be at all possible I would like to sign up ahead of time for 2 spots.

I'm not bothered about a class personally. I'd be happy with a user friendly interface and a user friendly instruction manual plus reliable telephone support.

It's just that I know once the cam arrives It'll go straight to work and I won't have time for anything else. I'll read the manual in bed thru the wee small hours. I'll be a narrow minded freak, I can just see it.

One thing to be borne in mind about RED_ONE, is that although its a much higher quality camera than any of the existing 2/3" and 1/3 video cameras out in the market, paradoxically its also a much simpler camera to operate. So get familiar with lens related issues, such as manual iris, zoom and focus, because that's where any special operating skills lie, not in complex menus. Shooting RAW with a wide dynamic range sensor is a very liberating process.

I have been shooting with high end 35mm cameras for quite a while now so for me operating skills is not really a concern of mine when it comes to the Red. The camera menu's and especially best utilizing the workflow and post is where I feel a Bootcamp would be helpful.

dont worry.. we will have bootcamps, there are alot of things Red is gonna introduce to the prosumer market that people are gonna need to understand.

Jarred,

It would be a huge benifit for me to attend a RED Bootcamp. What I am mainly wondering is:

If you may be able to have RED Bootcamps with the use of prototype or test RED 1's (If Jim decides to be really generous) for those of us who are still waiting on delivery of their RED 1?

Are you merely referring to elements of working with S35mm that prosumers aren't accustomed to? Or is there some new stuff under the hood there that may surprise those of us who have an extensive prosumer/pro/digital/film background who have been following the project from day one?

I'd go mainly for the networking aspect. :D

Sir, yes Red, Sir

Sir, yes Red, Sir

Jarred, I think a Red Bootcamp is an excellent idea count me in. I am commited to being one of the most knowledgeable people on the planet about the RedOne, RedCine, etc. I have reservation #19 and would be willing to bring my camera to the party if it is in my hands in time. Now, who is going to bring the 4k reference monitor?:Drogar-Evil(DBG):

Blair S. Paulsen
RedOne #19

You mean the Sony SXRD 4K projector?
We may be able to string three 30" Cinema dysplays together vertiacally though.:Drogar-Dum(DBG):
