RED 18-85 zoom weight

Jim,

Thank you for your answer and care. We actually hope as lightweight as possible.

i know the range is another one but wouldn't it be possible the same weight like the LWZ-1 (4.4lbs.) at least?.. or even less? if less it is the target..

for versatile handheld use, i'll use the nikkor 17-35mm zoom.. and this wouldn't be a dream come true.. it is a dream came true.. thx jim for the nikon f mount.. how it would be cool if the red zoom could be so light.. this would be a dream come true..

If their target is 7lbs, that means that it's not an easy task. If 6lbs was reasonable, 6lbs would be the target. Getting it down to 4.4lbs [with such a focal length range] would be unreasonable to expect.

I've disassembled an LWZ-1 before, it's remarkable the kind of work they did to keep the weight down. It's not something I would expect or demand from a $9,500 lens.

all what you said is true brook.. unless you forgot to mention "7 lbs. or less is the target." jim words. so, don't break the party!..

but the point on this is:

less is more than everything.. i believe it's always possible to improve..

sometimes, it's boring to get.. that any request is mixed-up with a complain..

there isn't perfect world and we know it.. any one needs to be DVXuser reader to find it..

but it doesn't mean that you can't express our feelings, our needs, our dreams.. that's why you used the word dream and me too.. different people, different dreams, needs, work and etc. CORRECT?

handheld, handheld.. that's what i need!

Hey, hey, I wasn't knocking on him or trying to keep him from expressing his wants/needs/etc... I was just stating a few things for the sake of discussion.

no worries.. i think we all here want as light as possible.. including jim.. it should mean more shooters out there shooting with the red one..

the only point is if it won't be possible to have it lighter, we can't use it so much we'd like as a handheld setup.. and the only affordable option can be the still lenses that frankly we all know can't beat the performance of the PL zoom lens..

so, go ahead jim & co, so far as possible with the lightweight request
