F3: Recording with external recorder, could use some help

So I havent had the best of luck finding a clear walkthrough of recording 10bit with an external recorder with the Sony F3. Currently I am borrowing a friends Atomos Ninja 2 but have seem to have issues getting it to record. I am wanting to record 24p from the F3 so is there a place to read up on the settings I should be using or could someone tell me what they use when recording to an external recorder?

Go SDI, not HDMI. Much more solid connections.
These days you can pick up a Samurai Blade for $400 used.
It is great and stable. Full size SDI inputs (don't get the original Samurai with mini SDI), cheap media and the RGB Parade and other waveforms are extremely useful for SLOG.
I don't think I have after even had a corrupted file with mine.
You also get a decent screen, peaking, etc.
Frankly a much better deal than a BM Hyperdeck Shuttle.

On the other hand, if you have some cash, getting a dual SDI input recorder will give you 50/60p even if you didn't do the paid upgrade.
In that case you are looking at a used Gemini for instance, or an Odyssey or eventually a Shogun Inferno when that comes onto the market.

For only a tiny bit more you can get a BMD VA or Atomos Samurai Blade, and actually get a decent monitor with it! So I'd totally do that instead.

The BM VA has issues with color casts. It is also mini SDI, which creates issues for cables and micro disconnects (trust me I've been there) and only has histograms vs waveform, RGB Parade and histo for the Blade.
