Recording Sync Audio

I'm the DP on a show shooting on the 7D for the first time. I, unfortunately have no chance for a camera test day and I have a question about frame rates/sync audio.

We are only using a line running to the 7D for a guide track because of the auto-gain feature that can't, for some unknown reason, be switched off without a specific piece of gear or a new firmware offering that option.

The only other device available to the production to record audio is a DVX 100b camera which is going to be our master audio... I think.

My question is this: If I set both the 7D and the DVX100 to record at 24p will the frame rates sync audio without severe drift? I know that some longer takes (10 min range) can see several frames of drift, but I want to make sure that I can shoot the 24p setting without any sync problems for 2-3 min takes.

If that is a bad idea, perhaps setting both cameras to record at 29.97 would be the ticket, though I don't really want to shoot that rate for picture.

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.
