Recording stopping early on T2i?

Is there some reason why my T2i is automatically stopping record early? I thought the limit was 4gb or 12min.. It doesn't always happen but at random times.. like just now it automatically stopped at :56 sec.

I didn't see an overheat indicator and I still have plenty of space left on my 16gb class 6 card.

Try turning off your camera and let it sit for a while. After that format your card within your camera, see if that works.

My friend's 5D was doing something similar and he had to send it in for repairs.

I've had no problems with my t2i. Card I'm using is sandisk 8gig class 4.
Also I formatted the card with the camera.

Did you format the card with the camera or are you relying on the formatting provided with the card?

Isn't class 4 slow as molassas on a winter's day?
That's probably your problem.

I think you misread the posts. They are having problems with a class 6. I said I have had no problems with a class 4. I certainly don't notice the speed of the card when I'm shooting!

I had a similar problem with my Class 6 SD card made by adata. The problem was that the transfer rate to the card wasn’t fast enough and the cameras buffer was getting full. Today I went out and bought a class 10 card by Patriot to try, and so far the camera has recorded until it hit the 4GB limit. On page 135 of the manual they have some notes that include a picture of an indicator that displays when the cameras buffer is getting full. Do you notice the icon showing up when you record sometimes because I did a lot of times before my camera automatically shut down.

I'm using a class 6 by transcend.. And yes, I've reformatted, using the camera's function.. Very odd. I don't wanna return this or send it for repair either. I've only had this for 2 weeks and I want to use it!

edit

Callsign_saru, I did not notice any indicators of the buffer getting full.. I'ma have to run some more test tonight. I'll try reformatting my card again.

I don't know what to say, maybe try a different brand. If I remember correctly I have gone through the full capacity about five or six times so far. At least two of those occasions were all long takes. Also I have yet to see the buffer warning.

Sandisk 8 gig class 4.

It could be the cards. I once, actually, still do have a useless 16gb class 6 SD card for my 450D that could only write 2 out of 3 pics. Tested it the day it arrived and have never used it since. My 4gb & 8gb work just fine.

I don't have a T2i but want one as an additional cam for my 7D. Format the cards in-camera only, I had to do that with my CF cards as initially one of them only recorded for a few secs.

when i first got my camera i used an old 2 gig card i had lying around and could only shoot for a few seconds before an icon on the right hand side would appear and then it would stop recording. This is obviously a card issue.

Now that i have my a-data class 10, 16 gig cards i haven't experienced any problems.

One 16GB A-data class 6 card I bought from Newegg did the same thing on my T1i. I've got 4 16GB Patriot class 6 cards that work great with the T1i/T2i.
