Hi, is it possible to assign the movie recording start/stop button from the Set button to other buttons? Can a remote work? I find it a little inconvenient to access the Set button behind the camera. Thanks

It's not possible to reassign the button, but it is possible to use a wireless trigger like the RC-6

If you have a rig you can attach it to the handgrip as well.

Loren, at the link you posted it states;

Video Function Compatibility
The RC-6 can initiate the video function for the following cameras: EOS 60D, EOS 7D, EOS Digital Rebel XT, EOS Digital Rebel XTi, EOS Digital Rebel T1i, EOS Digital Rebel T2, EOS Digital Rebel T2i, EOS Digital Rebel T3i, EOS Digital Rebel Ti, and EOS Digital Rebel XSi.

Are you sure it can trigger video recording on the 5D? I ask because its not listed.

Yep, the unit can start the 5D MK II recording video but only when your camera is BOTH set in live view, and the trigger method is selected.

You press the AF-Drive button and use the wheel to toggle along the options at the bottom of the screen. From memory it's: Single Shot, Multi Shot, Triggered Shot, 2 Second Delay Shot.

Order may be different but that's where triggered mode is.*

*I believe...from memory lol

it is worth considering an Okii Controller, you can start stop zoom to pixel view and 'focus' the only function is not that good is focus

Kind of answered your own question. An expensive follow focuser with a flawed focus. :) Seems a weird flaw to have. Is that what reviewers are saying?

Probably worth picking up the RC-6 for very little and seeing how you get on.

The concept of the OKii is pretty good, though. Very handy.

I have and like the Okki, just I dont consider it to be a follow focus

Once you have record and focus check (before rolling) at your finger tips you wont want to go back if you are ENGing on a rig

I also use it with a remote monitor for car shots and the like.. mount on the bonnet, monitor/trim focus/change iris etc from in the car

Just been checking it out and yeh...what a shame the focus is steppy. Would have been the perfect product otherwise.

But it's another thing to add to the huge list as I can see it still has benefits (like some you mention) :)

I've tested the RC-1 and RC-6 remote controllers and both of them are able to start/stop video recording in the 5D2.
