Recording Medium for Red... What is it?

When panasonic originally made their announcement of the HVX200, all the specs looked good but the biggest concern was the P2 card storage. Some suggested using an external firewire drive, but a lot of people were not comfortable trusting a whole day of shooting to a hard drive. Also, when people talked about possibly getting 4:4:4 out of the andromeda modified DVX, the question came about on how to store all that information.

Now enter the Red camera. To me, all the specs sound fantastic. Actually, they sound out of this world. However, the problem comes down to again, how will the camera record the footage, and how much will it cost to store everything. People are throwing out the number $5,000 for the recording element of the camera. What does this $5,000 get you? Are we talking about a harddrive or P2 flash equivelent that will net 60 minutes of recording time? How much extra money will people have to spend for storage of all this high quality video? The red site talks about Redflash and Redraid but does not give a whole lot of detail on them.

Like I said before, all the initial specs of the camera sounds great, but workflow is the most important to me. If I have to spend $10,000 extra just on harddrive space, then this camera may be priced out of my striking range.

I had already read that interview, but it still doesn't answer how much it will cost to store all this stuff. Sounds like Red is offering the P2/Flash memory method of recording along with a hard drive option of recording. The question is, how long of record times will the Redflash or Red - Drive give you, and how much will it cost to store what I assume to be gigantic files. 1080p is already running at a gigabyte a minute. I imagine a 4k image is going to be much more. The 16 gigabyte card hasn't even been released yet, but the footage this camera shoots may need larger cards to have a decent running time for a shoot. AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE!

Long term archival storage is going to be an issue also, not just for RED but for every tapeless, filmless camera.
