Recording DVX100B feed on a Mac?

Hi!

I may have the opportunity to buy a second hand DVX100B for Y98,000 (about 800 hours of use).
A bit stiff, but I'll try to bargain.

Anyway, I'm not planning on using tapes but unfortunately do not own any FireStore recorder.
The camera is supposed to be used to shoot indoor interviews, and I wish to use a 13 inche MacBook for that purpose.

Recording workflow would be
DVX100B -->firewire --> MacBook --> usb --> LaCie rugged hard drive

I have the following softwares installed on the Mac Book:
iMovie 08
Final Cut Express HD
Final Cut Pro 7

Any way to directly record video feed from the DVX using any of the above-mentioned software?

If no, any other software you could suggest?

I know that Adobe OnLocation can do it. Unfortunately, doesn't run on my MacBook.

Thanks,
Larry

In FCP you can set your project for DV and set the capture device to "non-controllable". Then, just manually start capture.

I'd advise against using a USB drive, though, as Apple/FCP won't support USB for video. You can put a FW400 drive in between the camera and the computer and capture to that. It's only daisychaining two FW400 devices so it shouldn't be a problem... but FW devices can be picky in how they play together, so be sure to test it first and make sure that the drive is happy in the chain.

You can use the USB drive, but I would recommend capturing to the computer and then transferring to the lacie. However, I have been able to record to a drive directly, and it works fine. In final cut PRO, go to Final Cut Pro>System Settings.
Then set the scratch disk to the hard drive and uncheck the one for Final Cut Documents (Unless you want both for backup).

Thanks! Will try this if I end up buying the cam!

By the way, do you really think the MacBook's hard drive is fast enough for DV capture?
