Recorder vs Monitor

Looking to spend a max of only $1000. During a recent shoot the screen of the gh2 could not be used to focus properly which is why I'm looking at getting something like the ninja 2 for $750/samurai for $995 or a smallhd dp4/dp6. The dp6 has the highest res of all the items but it seems the prores ability would be useful though I've heard of cadence issues with the gh2 output
 
As I understand it, the gh2 does not have a clean hdmi output, so the prores capabilities of the external recorders would be going to waste if you went that route. Go with the smallhd. Personally it's my favorite monitor, and it has all the right features.
