Record uncompressed 14-bit (4:4:4) on your HVX200

Jack_Felis : Thanks for the pics !!!!!!1

arrestthisman: i know for "you" it would be marvelous for Hydra to do audio sync, but it doesnt look like hydra is going after the "documentary" type of shooter. I for one DONT CARE if it doesnt sync audio because I bought my HVX to do Indy Films and prefer to have sound controlled seperately and independently.

I think your point has been well spoken and well taken, could you just lighten up a little bit about it (please) (pretty please)?

Juan: BRING ON THE FOOTAGE :p

True, but c'mon this is too fun to speculate. Also, Juan digs the opinions of the forums. If enough people ask for an MXF add-in for audio he'll put it in.

It's very easy programming that will save SO much time. It's not like Andromeda where USB is eating up system resources, and is maxing out the bandwidth of the format.

I think MXF in preview with the .HVX files on a crude timeline would be easy enough to put in, in theory.

Actually, that would be the best way to do it.

I would prefer that over an MBOX/Line in setup, but either would be fine.

But hey, even if he doesn't include it, I suppose sculptor HD to quicktime SHEERvideo or prores 422 into a ton of FCP sequences, matching up audio from P2 imports, especially with FCP allowing mixed formats in the same timeline in version 6. Then render out into cohesive files, organize, and reimport into a new project.

If that's the worst, that's not so bad, but man, to put it in to sculptor would save SO much time.

But at any rate, you have to admit this must be the best time in history to go into film! We're very close to ideas being the only obstacle to getting a vision on screen. Extremely exciting!

Until hydra, 1080p DVCPRO HD is about 3x better than what I need anyway! Let's all buy the world some coke.

I mean, buy the world A coke. ... hehe

I WILL agree with you there!!!

With the anouncement of 16gb P2 card prices, Final Cut Studio 2, Hydra, oh and lets not forget ANOTHER company possibly making CHEAPER P2 cards..... yes, it is a very good time indeed.
Honestly, since the announcement of Hydra, Ive been on the edge of my seat :Drogar-Love(DBG):

Just curious where the $3700 figure came from. I stopped by the booth Monday and Juan said they were undecided at this point but were expecting somewhere between $3500-$4500. When someone mentions a range like that I usually figure the final numbers will be at the high end of the range.

No way! $3700 or under maybe (Depending on exchange rates) $4500 argh! Plus shipping.
arrestthisman, Boring and Tedious is what the trainee / assistant / aprentice is for ! But yes for freestyle documentary in camera synch is vital. I think it it's a case of tools for the job, you would't paint the Sistine Chapel with a whitewash brush, nor the side of a house with a 00 sable. In fact i would be a bit concerned at running around with a Firestore hanging off my cam, let alone an ethernet cable / laptop / raid array, For that sort of thing a few big p2s would be the way to go perhaps, but for studio or controled location work, a Hydra set-up even with seperate sound sounds interesting.

Regards to all,
Dave

Seperate sound is fine, it's traditional. But still, we're both right in that sync sound is a must have for docs, ENG, and probably a lot of other applications we're not even considering.

like LIVE!!! Imagine being able to film a concert in 2k, with the dynamic range for low lighting, and all the other goodies Hydra could afford; speaking of afford, since it's cheaper than the competition, and have better range (...likely) than SI-2k, you could add a couple cams for big gigs, and maybe match it to some non-hydra hvxs. But, especially for matching to a multi-cam shoot, sync sound is just very important.

I hate to keep pounding this point, but it's not a dead horse, it needs to be addressed, and I'll be one unhappy camper if hydra rolls out with a 3k+ price tag and NO easy way to sync sound.

Also, I really don't want to put my interns through that tedium if it doesn't need to be there. A day or so of coding (I'm pulling that figure out of my a**) from Juan's team for a preview and MXF audio import timeline, and it'll save my crew a couple of days EVERY SINGLE PROJECT!

How about this, I'd even be satisfied if he offered it as a seperate download to sculptor with no technical support in indefinite BETA stage. I just can't stand the idea of ADDing a step to my workflow in the age where every other camera is subtracting the tedium from years of tech limitations.

Film is now IT, let's keep it that way! eh?

sound idea...

sound idea...

I am with arrestthisman on this (now do it, someone, arresthim:) ) as easy integrated multitrack sound sync would be such a great added value. The market is expanding all the time, and the old school way of doing things is changing as so many of us are one-man bands in many situations. Oh, and we are doing a mod on the onboard mic's once the warranty is no longer valid.

Sync Sound just seems to make sense in a digital future. Arrestthisman said that it's traditional to separate the two......as it is to shoot on film. The digital revolution includes sync sound

I've actualy been "lurking" on this thread for a while now, but I have what may be a daft question.
OK, suppose we have a 1920x1080 4:4:4 14 bit frame, according to my calculations that is 87.1 Mbits. divide that into 1000 Mbits/sec ethernet, and at 11.5 fps you're going to run out of bandwidth. So how do you get the frame into the bandwidth. I seem to remember Juan giving a figure of 100 MBytes/sec data rate, so again how is it done?
Don't all flame me at once please, one concise answer will do!
Oh, and if you record on 2k, with a 1.85:1 aspect ratio, how do you edit the footage (In Avid XPro, can't afford DS Nitris!).
Cheers and regards to all,
Dave

One reason (Not the only or a deal breaker) is to record higher quality than 16/48 for sound editing, and if you have multiple cameras at widly separated positions, see my post earlier re: Carol Service.

Cheers,
Dave

Um... this is actualy a reply to Evolve

That would probably be me. I guess I talked to Juan's brother(?) and he told me all about the Hydra and Andromeda and came up with the "about $3700" price. Maybe I didn't understand him very well but that was just the number I heard.

C'mon Reel Stream, don't leave us in the dark here. You've got our rapt attention, now make something of it!

The system supports a wide variety of data rates for different frame rates, color precisions and resolutions. Roughly speaking, the modes range from ~20MBytes/sec all the way to over 100Mbyte/sec. So, a 7200RPM laptop drive may be able to support some modes, a 7200RPM desktop drive will be able to support a few faster modes, a 2-drive RAID will support more modes, etc, etc.

It all depends on what you want to shoot, and then you just get a drive configuration that supports what you need.

Again, our system doesn't bend space and time, the user needs to have a drive that can support the bandwidth he/she is asking SculptorHD to record. :)

Cheers,
Juan
So maybe 2 7200 drives, or do i need to step it up and go with Raid 0 10K drives?
