Recommendations, for external recorders needed

So, I went to B&H to order the PIX-E5H and noticed a difference between the E5H and the E5: the E5H can record up to ProRes 4:4:4 while the E5H only records up to ProRes 4:2:2.

What does this mean? It seems like all the comments in this thread say that the E5H will record everything that my DVX200 can put out, so there is no need to get the E5. Is that correct?

Thanks.

The DVX200 can't output 4:4:4, so recording ProRes 4:4:4 would be overkill and a waste of bandwidth.

The Pix-E5H can record almost everything the DVX200 can put out, except for UHD 50p/60p. The recorder is incapable of receiving that 50p/60p signal, because the recorder uses HDMI 1.4. Other than that, yes, the PIX-E5H can handle anything the DVX200 can throw at it.

Pix-E5H certainly sounds like a perfect companion to DVX200. Unless there are other cameras you need to consider a more capable field monitor/recorder for, I think this one is the way to go. It's in my wishlist soon as someone says "we need 10bit!"

reviving an old thread but what would be the recommendation today for the same issue as the OP
It is too frustrating to work with hard-to-edit codecs. Therefore I want to get an external recorder that will record ProRes. I want the recorder to have a swappable hard drive bay. What's recommended?

I've just bought Atomos Shogun Inferno. I went to one exhibition and spoke to Atomos engineer. So he showed me everything I wanted to know about the device. The most important parts to me are big bright screen, focusing aid, V-log assist (not sure I call it right) and the device UI speed!
