I'm brand new to DSLRs and planning on getting the following setup:

1.) Unhacked gh1 with kit lens

2.) Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II

3.) Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter to fit canon f1.8 on gh1

I also want to get a fisheye to get shots like you see in skater and beastie boys vids:

I want to be able to see the vig in the fisheye and I don't care if it's blurry around the edges and have CAs. In fact having oddness to it would be a good thing.

My questions are:

1.) Do you get a fish eye that fits on the end of canon f1.8 or does it go directly on the gh1 body? Or could it be either?

2.) What model fish eye at about .2x can I get in the $20 to $50 range that will show the vig?

Get a canon fd 50mm ssc f/1.4 for $80 and the ciecio7 adapter on eBay for $50. And I'm not sure about a fisheye.

Thanks, I'll look into the 1.4.

Can you screw other lenses onto the front of a 1.8 or 1.8? Meaning can I get a 52 mm thread size fish eye and use it in front of the 1.4?

You can, but the effect might not be entirely what you expect, and the quality wil not be very impressive.

You see, the 50mm on a GH2 has a field of view equivelant to a 100mm lens on a Full Frame camera. Most video cameras at full wide have an equivelant field of view to about 35mm on a Full Frame camera. So putting a fisheye on a 50mm lens on the GH2 would be equivelant to putting a fisheye lens on a Camcorder then zooming it to 2.5x-3x. You'll completely lose the fisheye effect, as well as crop out the vignette. To get the fisheye effect, you'll need to be adding the fisheye adaptor to a lens that's wider than about 20mm (40mm Full Frame FOV equivelant).

Even then, the image quality will be severely degraded.

If you really want the fisheye look then my advice would be to forget about using adaptors and check out the Samyang 8mm Fisheye instead. It won't give you a full-fisheye effect on the GH2 because of the 2x crop but it will still be very wide and quite distorted. You can add the vignette in post quite easily if you really want that to be part of your look.

One last thing, the fisheye vignette look does not mix well with a 16:9 aspect ratio. That's one of the big reasons so many skate vids are still shot in 4:3 aspect ratio.

I agree, stay away from Canon ef... just try the Canon fd lens mount bc it has an aperture ring

Yep.. I also agree. The 50mm are a little on the telephoto range on the Gh2. The 20/25mm will give you a decent medium range and for the wide angle stuff I really like the 7-14.
