Recommend a lens for me.

Hi. Straight to business. I'm producing a WW2 short with "Saving Private Ryan" like cinematography, wich means high shutter speeds for a harsh and "edgy" look.

Camera T2i, now; the kit lens 18-55mm IS works EXCELLENT for my needs. Except one thing - light. With shutter speeds like +120 it will not work well in low light conditions, and we will also have a few night scenes, so...

Thing is, I want a nice allround lens like the kit one, just better in lowlight (low "f"-number?) I'm still a beginner with DSRL and would appreciate your comments. Reason why I'm stating that I'm (almost) happy with the kit lens is just to highlight that I'm low budget... :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

Shooting in Sweden wich means a long and bright summer, but also wet season and a cloudy day can really mess things up (at least with DV) is my experience.

Thanks

agree with the above:
17-50 F2.8, or the canon 17-55 f2.8 if you can afford it.
and primes are going to be your friend in low light stuff:
Sigma 30mm f1.4 is a good one

afford it

Always fun to spend money on movie equipment, until you sum it up... :2vrolijk_08:

I'll probably go for the 50mm f1.4 USM. Anyone has a comparison video 1.4/1.8? Can't seem to find one, I will probably need the 1.4 anyway but... and what is the "f-"number on the 18-55mm kit lens? I'm prob just dumb/slow in general but I can't find it.

18-55 is 3.5 on the wide end and 5.6 on the long.

Remember. AF sucks in live view. You're gonna be manually focusing her for the most part. A great nikkor can be found used and works with an 11 dollar adapter. Keh.com is your friend. A 50mm 1.8 and a wide or long lens like a 105mm 2.8 can be had for cheap and it's a reputable dealer.
