REC / PAUSE lcd display

Rec/Pause and TC display always remains on screen. Panasonic wants to make sure you know for sure whether the camera is recording or not. It could be a costly mistake.

Camera Menu 7/other display lets you control what you see on screen.

On the other hand, you have the option to turn off your osd when connected to an external monitor.

You can get rid of the TC display, by using the COUNTER button.

But rec/pause will always be there on the LCD/VF.

The VIDEO OUT OSD menu item controls whether those elements get sent out the video outputs. Turn that menu item to OFF and no overlay display will clutter up the straight video signal.

Thanks Barry but I need the time stamp for legal

Right, but -- the HMC150 (and HPX170, no?) can stamp the date and time directly into the video. So -- are you recording internally? Or externally? Or both?

If recording internally, the rec/pause isn't a problem. You can time-stamp right onto the footage.

If recording externally, the rec/pause shouldn't be a problem. Turn off all the displays except time/date, turn on the OSD, and the date/time will be displayed. On the HMC150, if you put a write-protected SD card in, it will get rid of PAUSE. With the HPX170 I'm pretty sure if you plug in a P2 card it'll get rid of the flashing "No P2 Card" icon.

If recording to both internal and external, then yeah, that's where you'll have a problem because the red dot will be there.

ok
I am recording to both INT/EXT.
The key is that the DATE/TIME is seen on the dvd recorder but I would also like to back up with DATE/TIME STAMP. This kind of sucks!
Would the HMC150 let me do both?
Thanks though - and let me know if you have any other ideas.

If you're recording to both, you're going to have the red dot on the external. Everything else will be clean, but there'll still be the red dot.

If you record to internal, and then dub it to external after the fact, then you'd have it clean on both.

The HMC150 works exactly the same way as the HPX170, unless I'm forgetting something. I just ran the test with the HMC150 to see if I could get it entirely clean, and the prior post represents my results.

Then I'll have to stick with the firewire - which lets me record to INT/EXT. The problem is that not all DVD recorders have firewire input and sometimes I find myself working with those.
Thanks Barry!
