C100: Rec. 709 profile

I have been requested to shoot with a Rec. 709 profile. The C100 does not seem to have this profile as a preset. Does anyone have a profile they are using?

The 709 profile is normal3 gamma + normal3 color matrix (for Europe), normal4 is "BBC 709" (it has a little difference in black), it is also only one profile where the knee function has the effect (normal1-normal4).

I didn't know BBC had a special version of 709, could you elaborate please? thanks

Thanks Pave1!
Can you please elaborate a little on how I set this up?
Which profile should I edit to create the new profile?

about normal 4 "BBC" gamma - for example look at here:

  • Normal 1: Typical contrast and saturation; assumes viewing on a TV monitor. (Default NHK 4.0)
  • Normal 2: Similar but bright areas are rendered even brighter. (The REC709 4.0, curve with a lower slope near black)
  • Normal 3: Greater expansion of tones in shadow areas (default REC709 curve).
  • Normal 4: Similar but even more detail in dark shadows. (BBC 0.4)
  • Cine 1: Crisp, fairly vivid image, simulating motion picture film. (Good for an in-camera film look)
  • Cine 2: Similar but reduced contrast.
  • C8: CINEMA: With the Canon Log gamma curve and reduced sharpness. (Not to be confused with Cine 1 and 2)
  • C9: EOS Standard: Crisp, vivid image, similar to the Standard Picture Style of a Canon EOS HD-SLR. We recon this "look" is "over-baked".

You can find the normal 4 gamma (BBC 0.4) on a lot of Canon and Sony cameras.

If you want use "the 709" profile, then set up a CP with normal3 gamma + normal3 color matrix. You can use the knee function for a little better DR or other minor adjustment (color gain, etc). The same gamma curve (normal3 or cine1) helps to get "the same" picture from different cameras.

Thanks again.

From what I can see the only way to make a new profile is to copy and edit an existing one. Does it matter which of the existing profiles I edit?

I have all new profiles except canon-log (normal3 = ITU R709, cine1 for day, night, wdr with NR2 and NR4, log...).

It is better reset CP before you make a new CP (and rename new one). You don't need to make a copy, if you want start new profile, you can also export old profiles to SDHC card for backup. I need to make copy only if I need the version of an existing CP.
