Reason 1D Mk IV Nocturne was pulled

Maybe the footage was pulled because it was not ok'd through Canon for release. They probably saw the anomalies and freaked out.

It's still on YouTube.

It was like a frame in a flash cut...they could have removed it in post...hell they color corrected and fixed the crap out of the image anyway, wouldn't have been a stretch.

I'd like to think it was cause of that flipping the car continuity problem..they need to go reshoot and not break the 180 degree rule :P

OH NOEZ MOIRE PROBLEMSZ. I say we move all 1D Mk IV posts to the 7D forum instead of 5D...at least until the 1D mk V comes out :D

Does anyone know the real reason why it was pulled? Was it because of the content or mentioned technical difficulties? Or was it just not as "polished" as Reverie was, considering Reverie actually did utilize creative lighting versus shooting under available conditions?

It would be really interesting to know exactly why it was pulled.

Lo~l. Thanks, Pirata.

The comments about steadicams in the second link are priceless. Just goes to show you how the merger is about to bring out supreme ignorance.

There is info about why it was pulled over at Red in one of the 1D threads, if I had the time I'd find the link but sounds like someone at Canon won't have a job after what was said in it. I know if the guy worked for me he'd have a serious problem. It's kinda funny... I'll try to go find it in a little.

For a still. But how does it affect motion? Does the underlying alias pattern still exhibit itself, just without the color effect?

Blurring chroma will work for "rainbows", but not for the "line twittering" from aliasing (e.g. the opening sequence when the camera pans over the stripped shirt)

I am not advocating any method at all. So don't think blurring the chroma will address all and every aberration thrown up by this (or any) camera - although it is a useful tool amongst others and certainly helps out with scenes like this - even when in motion.

It is one of many quick and easy techniques (some as old as the hills!) to circumnavigate the technical shortcomings of these cameras - but along with numerous other tricks the overwhelming majority of problems can be ironed out fairly easily - even if that might mean a little manual work scene by scene - ie: there may not a be solve all problems button or plug-in, but there is little that cannot be resolved.

you never know this might be the whole plan, you never know what these marketing people are up to. create something for us to ***** about. incrediblily viral. In a way it's alreadly working and the video is still floating around in youtube.

I have read a few blogs like this from people who 'claim' to be working for Canon USA and have to say that sadly they come across as simply racist.

The bashing of Canon Inc. in Japan is completely racially motivated, you can detect the tone in the text. Awful stuff.

We don't know the real reasons, or why Canon USA gave out the camera for the film to be made without having prior approval from the main company in Japan. I don't know the details. It sounds like either Canon have bad communication lines between the US and Japan or a lot of bad blood between the two 'sides'. If that is true, then it's very sad indeed.

The video should not have been pulled. It's unjustified. If indeed some lawyer or bureaucrat in Japan has ordered this then fine, sling mud at those people (not the whole of Canon Japan, JUST those people responsible and the poor management of the situation by Canon Inc.). But leave the US versus Japan and racist bullshi* on the blogs and see it for what it is... BS.

From Fake Chuck Westfall blog
http://fakechuckwestfall.wordpress.com/2009/10/21/on-canon-taking-down-nocturne/

"Truth is the poo pooing boneheaded Japanese are at it again. Really, how stupid do you have to be NOT to want to take advantage of this kind of free viral marketing? I just recently wrote about the Japanese not understanding the first thing about marketing, and in case you were still not convinced this is another example."

"Canon Inc. can take their poo pooing Kyosei corporate philosophy and cram it you know where. Do you know what hinders the achievement of kyosei??? HUH?? DO YA?? Let me tell you what hinders achieving kyosei, you stupid, ignorant bastards: It’s the poo pooing morons running the company!"

If you're wondering where my sense of humour is lacking here, it's in comments like those and countless other anti-Japanese article's he's posted. He has no respect for Canon Japan at all and now he's coming up with all these baseless conspiracy theories.

I can't stand this redneck agenda of his.

I know! "Question: Why is there a "Steadicam" operator in the credits when this was supposedly shot "ENTIRELY" on a DSLR?"

Total fail..I mean it wouldn't be so bad if that was an actual question but they worded it like HAHA! GOT YOU!

I know man it's hilarious, I was stunned by that post. Didn't think I was reading it right the first time. haha...

Wrong thread, was looking for J B Rant video I have heard nothing but good things about today...

Just goes to show you not to be a D B!

I especially enjoyed all the "experts" who felt motivated to prove to cyberspace that they too knew what a Steadicam was...

as an asian (i am not japanese) I have to agree with your post to some point. However where it's coming from is innocent enough (we are all alitle pissed with canon), but were it's headed to is another thing (generaliziations ). In a certain sense all jokes have an elemental of curelty in it.
Lets not jump the gun, we will get to see the canon 1dmark4 and put it through it's paces eventually.

I don't see any humour in these blogs or the responses to what's been said.

Is there something in the water this week, or what? Both Reduser.net and Dvxuser.com have had their fair share of homophobic and racist BS thinly disguised as humour.

I won't dignify it with any further comment.

I'm half-asian decent but ultimately an American so the jokes don't bother me. It's obviously exaggerated, all in fun, might even have a hint of truth. I don't see what the problem is. Maybe it's a little offensive, but lots of people enjoy offensive humor purely for the sake of its offensiveness, myself included. I think it ultimately pokes fun at nationalism itself.

So you don't have to, I've made a Greatest Tits collection of this blog's deluded racist BS, the same flame baiting BS that all too often is spouted on camera forums:

"Btw I think I can speak for almost every reader of your blog – keep on kicking japanese butts"

"japanese don’t understand marketing"

"Occasionally, Jap companies get a western minded pragmatical leadership and it results in great achievements"

"Maybe, just maybe the wanks in Nipponville have gotten it right this time."

"Did you actually watch that turd Nocturne? [What is it with these sophomoric one word titles anyway?] The only word that comes to mind is B-O-R-I-N-G!!!"

"You is suck the dick!"

"There’s just something really funny about watching a gay looking Canon executive beating the crap out of a Nikon photographer."

maeda2.jpg

"I need the support of all of you to get those poo poos in Japan to innovate"

"With your support I hope we can talk some sense into those morons in Japan"

"The gestapo at the DPReview Canon forums went into action again and deleted an entire thread where Canon users were discussing my post. This is not the first time this has happened"

"To be fair, I have to admit that we did have our moment at Canon USA when Vincent Laforet, God bless his soul, created the short movie Reverie with the 5D Mark II. But that was entirely his initiative and thank God we were able to give him a 5D2 for a few days to do it. And you’d think the morons at Canon Inc. would have noticed the success and try to do more of this, but instead they’re doing crap like interviewing Mr. Mizutani. This is what I can’t stand about Canon Inc., their sheer arrogance. Nikon appears to be listening to photographers worldwide, contacting them and asking them what they need, actively participating in the community in various ways. Canon Inc. doesn’t appear to be interested in what anyone thinks."

(That gem was from a few days before 5D Mark II manual controls announcement)

In the UK we have our share of bigots and racists (check the recent news), we crush them under foot. I suggest you lot do the same with this guy. Some of the guys in the states have no idea how badly this kind of BS is perceived in the rest of the world. Not directing this at anyone on here in particular. But FFS wake up the 21st century and stop giggling like moronic school kids.
