READ THIS BEFORE BUYING A DVX100a

If I'm correct, they are not an authorized dealer. So they may sell you a great camera, but you run the risk of it not being eligible for the rebate and warranty.

I think they are a sister company to buydig.com. I've purchased from buydig before with no problems, but the most I spent was just over $1000, and I wasn't aware of the risks involved either.

Spending $3,000 + is a big deal for me so I wanted to make sure the transaction was clean and I got what I wanted for the price I paid. Based on the posts here I went with EVS and am very glad I did.

Hey guys, I love the site and the wealth of information on it. Have been going through it like crazy for the past few weeks trying to figure everything out that I can before I make the purchase (the only downside is that it is a bit addictive, and I haven't been thinking about my film lately). But this site has definitely sealed my choice for the DVX 100a over other cams I was considering (actually it was seeing some post production footage shot with the DVX, but the site provided a logical explanation for it all). I hear you all talking about EVS, I was just wandering what is the dvxuser discount you get there? I don't think I saw a concrete number anywhere?

Hi VanZutten, theDVXuser discount is not a set percentage, it is a competitive discount on everything we sell, special lower pricing on tape, and freebies with certain products. That way you get to call and chat with us, get support and advice, and still get a competitive bottom line.

The whole idea is to get the professional advice and the lower price. :)

You can email me your inquiries at rush@evsonline.com and I will be happy to respond with the DVXuser discounts.

Let's talk DVX100a pricing. As of May 2005, the lowest legitimate price for a DVX100a with Panasonic USA warranty is about $3300-3400 (before rebate). By legitimate, I mean from an authorized Panasonic USA distributor. You can find authorized distributors on the Panasonic web site at:

http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?displayTab=R&storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=68668&catGroupId=14569&modelNo=AG-DVX100A&surfModel=AG-DVX100A

Before you buy your DVX100a, confirm that you're purchasing from an authorized dealer. One authorized dealer we STRONGLY recommend is
EVS http://www.evsonline.com/ Ask for Rush for the DVXUser discount. This recommendation is based solely on the uniformly positive experiences that numerous forum members have had with EVS.

I am buying my dvx100a from b&h photo video (bhphotovideo.com) in manhattan NYC. It is the main NYC camera store and I assume it is legit. However, it doesn't list the magic bullet and the Barry Green book as part of the packages they offer. Are these items just automatically included? Or may they not be and I have to go elsewhere. Would be strange as this store is HUGE in the New York area esp. Manhattan, both online and in store.

They will be automatically included in any DVX100A box that you buy from an authorized reseller (and B&H is an authorized reseller). Never "assume" a store is legit, but yes, B&H is about as legit as they get!

Wait till you read it, and watch the DVD, it will make you understand that capable camera like no other publication can.

....since the DVX100b is pretty much the same as the 100a....does barry's book still come with it?

jus wondering..

I'd be suprised if it did. its being sold with the 100a as part of kit/promo.

Thanks EVS!

Thanks EVS!

Just writing to say thanks to Ryan at EVS for helping me with my new purchase of a DVX100A, which I just received in the mail today!

I believe this is my first post, but I have been reading the forum here for sometime now trying to decide on what camera to go with and I am glad that I found dvxuser.com and saw all the responses from the members.

Ryan was very helpful before and after my purchase. Making sure he answered any of my questions where I was satisfied and helping me with my tracking question (wasn't sent in my email) after the purchase. I have and will continue to recommend EVS to anyone looking for a great video store to deal with. I heard so much about you guys and Ryan met all my expectations and more.

Going to finish reading the manual and the DVX book before starting it up :)

Once again thanks to Ryan and EVS! Looking forward to dealing with you in the future.

P.S. Thanks for the mug.

Michael

Thanks disciple, I will make sure to relay your info to Ryan.:)

Beware of Scams
Before you plunk down thousands of dollars, do a little research on the vendor. Check www.resellerratings.com and Google the name of the store. Try to get some personal recommendations. Here are some common scams:

  • The Gray Market Camera -- not imported through Panasonic USA, a gray market camera has no official Panasonic USA warranty. It may have a 3rd party warranty or no warranty at all. If you have problems with your camera, Panasonic USA will not be able to help and you may be stuck with a huge repair bill. These cameras are frequently advertised with USA warranty. They may also be advertised with an International Warranty. Panasonic USA does not recognize any "International" Warranty. Camera stores will outright lie on the phone, so don't take their word--check with Panasonic USA to see if they're authorized.
  • Note: As of August 1st 2005 Panasonic U.S. is offering a $500 rebate, 10 DVM63AMQ-63 tapes, an extra 5400 mAh Li-Ion battery, Magic Bullet for Editors software, plus Barry Green's DVX100 book + DVD. If you don't receive the DVX book/DVD and Magic Bullet software in the box, you probably bought a gray market camera. You will receive the $500 rebate, extra battery, and tapes by mail. This deal makes it officially insane to buy a gray market camera--you'd be saving no money by going gray market. A gray market camera might sell for $200-300 less than the U.S. version, but you won't be eligible for the $500 rebate or any other goodies.
  • The Cheap DVX100a with Expensive Mandatory Accessories -- The price for the DVX100a will appear amazingly cheap--like $2500--but you will never get the camera for that price unless you agree to buy insanely priced junk accesories or pay for standard accessories that are normally included with the camera. You may also find that excessive shipping costs (think $200-300) are added to your bill. Some of these fraudulent merchants will flat out overbill your credit card after you've agreed on the charges. Never place any order before you know exactly what the final charges will be. Get a faxed quote for the exact order including shipping and handling before you place any order.
  • The Imaginary DVX100a -- Someone is advertising an incredible price on eBay or a camera forum. *Grandma needs a new hip so I need to sell today. Someone may email you with an offer after you lose an eBay auction. Run away--far away--because the camera probably doesn't exist.
Warning Signs
If the deal sounds too good to be true or even slightly fishy--take a pass. Beware of requests for payment by Western Union. Pay by credit card so you have some recourse if the deal goes south. If the seller lives in another country, you will have no practical legal recourse if you have a problem. Watch out for stores in Brooklyn--they are almost all bad. Use your common sense and don't let your desire for cheap deal blind you to potential scams.
Could you please tell me if this is a goodeal?
After reading your posting I'm not sure if it is or not?
I was not able to go to the panasonic dealr list site that you had posted
http://www.thecameramall.com/thecameramall/itemdesc.asp?CartId={5B41796C-9157EVEREST-41A0-817C-9041B54F7A9A}&ic=PNAGDVX100A

Thanks

Michelle,
Personally, I'm a little suspicious of any place that does not list a physical address anywhere on their website. But that's me.

Don't mess with trouble. If you cant afford the extra $500 get something else. I have learned that you get what you pay for. All purchases I make for video stuff here in LA is at www.evsonline.com, prices are good its not the guitar center type circus and the boys actually talk with you not to you.

If you need a break on just gear www.bhphoto.com is the best. So, in LA you have roughly 2 choices.

You choose. I did and am happy as a

clam : )

MEMORIZE EVERY WORD OF BARRY_S' POST!!!

I am the one who bought a DVX100A from EmpireDigital.com. Salesperson name: Adam.

As Barry_S sad, I had to buy an extra junk.

1. The battery. It was advertised as 6 Hr battery. In reality it was a BP-320CL.

2. Extra lenses. The deal included the choice of wideangle or telephoto lens. Chose one. Another one was available for $399. I got both. When I got my package, I realized that those lenses are 62 mm with 72 to 62 mm adapther ring!

3. The package box had a warning: "This unit is not suitable for any county except Japan"!

4. The remote didn't work. I had to sent the camera back to the dealer at MY OWN expense, and after a one week delay (they didn't have a replacement) they sent me another one.

5. I had to call them frequently to check the status, even though they promised to send me emails.

So, you may have a question: how can I instantly recognize a scam?

Answers:

If your on-line order is not processed within a week, and you feel that something is wrong and you need to call them - THIS IS IT! - Cancel the order on line or call them to cancel.

If a salesman say that the unit comes with 20 minutes (or 40 minutes or 1 hour) battery - THIS IS IT! - Say that you want to cancel the order immediately!

If the box doesn't have a UPC bar code - THIS IS IT!

I hope I can convince you spend an extra $500 and get:

1. WARRANTY!
2. $500 REBATE and Barry's book and DVD!
3. PEACE OF MIND!!!!!!!

Thanks.
