Re-using Mini DV Tapes?? Should you?

Depending on the quality of the tape, it's no big deal. If it's just for test stuff then don't even worry about it.

i reuse my work tapes... like the ones i used for a paying gig.... for my stuff.

Gigs always get fresh tapes.

My understanding was that tapes start to degrade thru usage. And have larger risk of flaking and clogging heads... I thought I read that here somewhere.

I've been re-using my tapes for a while, because I was pretty much unable to get JVC tapes or get my camera cleaned so I could switch brand. All until now, my DVX drops frames like crazy, something must have hit the recording heads, although I don't know if it has anything to do with re-usage of tapes.

Luckily, in a few weeks I'm going to visit my uncle who can clean my DVX for free.

I've never done it. I stick with fresh tape.

I've only had drop outs when re-using tapes for testing so I would never use a used tape for a shoot.
