Re: Guerilla 35 - Barry? Noah K?

The odds of going to a film out on film is very high.
But I think that any real test would be to do a film out. See how it holds up as well. With your beta testers footage.

To be totally honest the only way I would endorse the Guerilla35 for film out is if footage was shot with an HVX or some other 1080P camera. Barry has stated earlier that in his experience the film out with a Mini35 was less than desirable (not a direct quote). I don't know if he was speaking of HD or SD but I think the only way we can give these adapters a fighting chance is if the acquisition is on HD. So, unless I find a HVX sitting on my doorstep in the next few weeks (cough..cough.. Jan...cough) we might not see a film out from the Guerilla35 for several months. Until then, your guess is as good as mine :undecided

Why not shoot a chart with a 5MP digital still camera attached to a 35mm adapter ?
That would be the ultimate resolution test. Yes, this is a challenge.

I can see the HVX, but any other 1080p camera, I wouldn't be worried about a film out.

The reason. You never know what might happen. All of the stuff I've done on 35mm has never gone to a film out for distribution. But with my luck I'll shoot something with the DVX and later with the HVX and someone would want to release it on film.

And the softness issue with adapter is why I'd like to see a film out. So that I can make up my mind which way I would like to shoot something.

Then I can have more choices if I want to play the odds.

I posted these in another forum. They are stills from some test footage I shot with a Z1 the other day. I'm not familiar with the codec so there is some noise and it seems like pixelation. However, it should give you an idea of how sharp the G35 is.
