Re: Guerilla 35 - Barry? Noah K?

Hi guys - I'm eager to learn as much about the Guerilla35 as possible - know that Barry says he's tied to NDA but certainly, Barry you CAN confirm:

if you've received the beta?

if you've had time to try it out?

Noah Kadner - likewise?

The G35 guys apparently will be at NAB next week...

Can the beta-testers try it out with something like a Sigma F 2.8 zoom - I'm wondering how "slow" a 35mm SLR lens you can go to still get usable image using DVX...

thanks in advance!

I'm definitely looking forward to playing with it but as of this morning I haven't received the beta just yet. It looks to be well worth the wait.

Noah

I am prevented by NDA from offering any feedback or commenting about the unit or its capabilities. I can tell the G35 guys, but I can't tell anyone else. In fact, I can only really confirm that I'm a beta tester because Jonathan previously disclosed that info.

When will a review / more info be available? At NAB ? After NAB?

Are you prevented from showing us a picture or 3? They have some posted on their G35 forums already? Is that against the NDA?

I can reveal nothing publicly, now or hereafter. I can only disclose info to them. If they choose to make it public, that's their choice -- same with pictures, etc. But I can't say anything about it, show anything about it, etc.

Greetings from Ashville, NC. We are still on the road and will be until the 23rd. Please be patient while Barry has a chance to test the adapter. We want to hear his first impressions and any changes that he feels might need to be made. There are a few things that we know need to be updated with the adapter which is why he is a beta tester. We will post the feedback he gives to us as soon as possible. If you are lucky, you might run into Doug at NAB. He is supposed to have an adapter with him there. Thanks again and please give Barry and Noah some peace while they pick our product apart :)

so.... no production models yet?

so.... no production models yet?

Jon...

does this mean the April 15 date is now pushed back (ie. production model release/launch?)

I understood too that some G35's had been SOLD already - so these were prototypes?

What is ETA for final production model release for DVX with Nikon F-mount (give or take depending on beta tester feedback - are we talking weeks? several weeks?)
......???

much appreciate,

DannyS.

Barry?

Barry?

surely you've had time now to confirm the contents of that fed ex package and divulge if it was indeed a G35 inside...

surely too you can divulge if you've had a chance to look at it and had a chance to put it on your DVX and try it?

In no way shape or form could this information violate any sort of NDA.

Jonathan has asked that I post some of the feedback I've sent to him, regarding the G35.

I've been testing a beta version of the Guerilla35 ("G35") for a while now, and I'm continually impressed with how good the footage looks. I can't make a product endorsement off of using a prototype, I'll have to wait for a finished product to evaluate before determining the overall value and quality. But having used the mini35, I can say that the G35 delivers the sought-after shallow depth-of-field, and it's quieter too -- no spinning ground glass makes for quieter operation. My initial impressions are that footage-wise, the G35 is pretty sweet. Definitely somewhat softer than the native DVX100A, but not necessarily all in a bad way. Much more filmlike; it removes the video "edge" from the footage. The DVX is often praised for having such a filmlike look, but adding the G35 just pushes it over the edge from "filmlike" to "film". I look forward to seeing and evaluating a final production model of the G35.

This may be to soon to ask, but Barry what about a film out using the G35 if needed?

I'll understand if you can't answer until you get the non-prototype to test.

The one person I personally know who personally owns a VariCam does not like the Pro35.
All of these adapters are soft.. It's the nature of them. Sure makes for a cool look, though.

I wouldn't try to answer that unless I had actually done a film-out from a production model of the G35. Anything prior to that would be just speculation.

However, I did do a film-out from the mini35. I thought the results just crossed the line down from "acceptable" to "not really acceptable". The difference wasn't night-and-day, but it was just softer enough to make me wonder whether it was good enough. Might be a different story with 16:9 CCDs though, since the image will be undergoing a lot less blowup.
