Actually good. What turned out to be a "Lets screw off" production has officially become a "Lets do this right the first time" production. So, in PRE-PROD writing (more or less finished) and EXFILMS (Casey) and I will be re-working the finer details and then its off to cast and secure locations.

John, I wish you all the luck in the world there's a lot of work ahead for you.

My partner and I are waiting to see if a writer will spook up a script that we like. If not it looks like a friend of mine is getting the rights back to his story. The producers never could raise the money. His is a great spooky thriller that in a strange sense is also an actors film. It has a great role for an actor. Gary Sinise read the script and both he and his agent loved it. But I could never pull off the money to make it.

So instead of shooting 35mm this time and waiting for a company to give us the money. We got the DVX, mattle box, follow focus for a video shoot last month. When the production rolls around we'll get the 16x9 lens and eye piece and use are own money.

My partner who is a Director/DP loves the camera (only complaint was the auto focus), that's a lot coming from a guy a year ago wouldn't even think about shooting DV for a film and who owns his own Arri BL4.

Everything we've done either together or seperate has gone straight to video and has never been released in the USA. Except one is getting released next month on DVD. The funny thing is a company not even an hour after we signed the contracts wanted to fore wall it across the nation but they didn't want give us an advance so we decide not to break the contract. Murphy's law strikes again.

On this one since we're not shooting 35mm everyone will want a film print.

So we decide to shoot it on are own. Since we have all the equipment to make it in both production and post and hopefully sucker a couple of actor friends to do small cameos so we can have some minor star attraction when it comes time to sell it.

That is awesome and very inspiring. My favorite part about this site are the 'filmmakers' (No disrespect to those of you NOT interested in filmmaking). Exfilms (Casey) and I have been wanting to work together for a long time and have never been able to snych up but are ready to go at it. The problem is, I am the one writing. Now, I hate writing... but love to have written. Long story.

The story is written more or less. You ask "More or less?". The original screenplay was started as a feature idea way outside my budget (originates from a group in Africa and makes its way to New York and then San Diego) .

The rewriting is formatting for a san diego storyline within our budget and broken into 4 to 15 minute 'webisodes' for an ongoing online zombie-serial. Not your typical "Zombie story" but more in the vien of I AM LEGEND.

Anyway. Exciting and alot of work. In my real life, my brother is joining my day job company fulltime next week adn this will free up a ton of stress and commitments that have tied me down over the last year and half.

Im ranting. :D

John, I'll check with another friend of mine. He DP'ed a kind of throwback to 50's horror films on the XL1. A kind of lets film it as we can project. 90% of the film is shot. Then the director went blastic, doesn't want to finish the film so he took a vaction.

Next week my friend will find out if it'll be finished if the director comes back. My friend has talked with the producer about me coming on board to finish it, in my friends words, "if the big baby doesn't come back."

The reason I'm bringing this up is they were trying to get together 13 one hour shows for this new network that's forming. Then take it overseas as well. I'll talk to him and see if they need more product and he can get in touch with.

THEM was a great film. Watching it, you can just see James Cameron taking notes... and the next thing you know, he produces "Aliens"!

Well...

Obviously I know "Them" was 30 years before "Aliens". What I'm saying is that Cameron was sitting at home one night, turned on the tube, watched "Them", then grabbed his pen and started writing "Aliens". Watch it again with "Aliens" in mind, it really looks like THEM was probably a strong influence on him.

Same thing with "Titanic" -- I can totally see him in the theater, he watched "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet" with DiCaprio, and he kept thinking "doomed love story... Leonardo DiCaprio... water... every time they show DiCaprio there's water... and they're going to die... hey, wait a minute, I've got an idea..."

Oh, I dunno . . . I'm sure he saw "THEM!" long before 1983. But I'm sure he was influenced.

And "Titanic" must have been in pre-pro long before "R+J" was in the theatre (fall '96) . . .

Cameron is often "inspired" for his films. From Terminator Trivia on IMDB: " Science fiction author Harlan Ellison sued Cameron, claiming that the film was plagiarized from the two "Outer Limits, The" (1963) episodes that Ellison wrote, namely "Soldier" and "Demon With a Glass Hand". The concept of "Skynet" could also have been borrowed from an Ellison short story called "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream". The suit was settled out of court and newer prints of the film acknowledge Ellison." ...

Funny that you mentioned "THEM" and "Cameron" Barry. Because i mentioned the same thing in another tread. Fun that it wasnt just me, who thougt that Aliens was influenced by THEM.   :D

By the way is it strange that my favorite movies in the 50´s movie and my favourite 80´s movie. Both is about guys (and some womans) with machineguns that kills big bugs. ;)

Anybody, at the end of the film 28 days ..., when the boy waked up and they were watching th airplane, almost at the end of the film, the cinematographer used 35mm or video? It looks beautiful and different to the rest of the film.
In other forum I was told it was film, I want to know.
