Paul, none of this will work unless the male actors wear fedoras and the female actors wear berets and deep-red lipstick. And trenchcoats. And you'll need a fog machine in the barely-lit studio.

Sorry, it doesn't work here. I'm on PC and couldn't get past the error message to the actual download. Tried on 3 browsers, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. I've found the downloadable iZotope Vinyl v1.80, which seems to be their latest published version, elsewhere on the net - but not the authorization code.If you click on the link I posted it will get you to the download. It is on their site.
See above: I couldn't manage getting the authorization code. Can you pleas PM it to me?iZotope's Vinyl registration code is partially hidden under the website error box, it can be copied and pasted though. Downloading works as well. I just installed the VST 2&3 versions on my current Win 10 PC, the authorization code was accepted and it works just like it used to on my old PC with Sound Forge Pro and Vegas Pro.
If it's me (and it certainly is not), I go with any of these. If you really want that RCA sound (and I don't know why you would, but you might) go for the AEA R88, a better RCA than an actual RCA. But if you just want a period sound and you want a ribbon, go with the BBC mic of choice for decades: Coles 4038. Hard to go wrong with the Coles. Position it carefully, because like most all ribbons it has a pronounced proximity effect, and like most ribbons it won't take people blowing on it (use pop filters and position off center so their plosives don't do any damage to the mic).
Else if you want condensers, the AKGs are hard to beat. The C12 design is very old (but much loved in some circles), the C414s are classics that were used all over radio for decades. People still love them. Unless they hate them. You know how that goes.

Thank you.
R88 is a stereo ribbon, you must mistake it with any other microphone, I don't see why you would use it for recording ADR.
It worked ok for me using FireFox. Neither the serial number (at the top of the screen) nor the download button (at the bottom of the screen) were blocked by the error message window. I'm using Windows 10 on a laptop. Also, they email the serial number to you after you hit the download button and fill in the form.

As expected by some of you, the RCA 44bx performed poorly. It needed the double pre-amps and even then, it was weak. They had one that was original and one that was fitted with a pre-amp (external to the mic, but part of the 'assembly'). They had a lot of trouble setting it up and in the end it was no good. They said they never used it for voice, but for loud instruments like horns. They also set me up with a U47, which performed nicely.
