GH2 Raynox 6600 wide angle TIP

To get a fast wide angle in the GH1 and GH2 you can use a Raynox 6600 0.66x converter.

The tip is to put a UV filter between the camera lens and the Raynox, this will increase a little the distance between the Raynox and the camera lens to improve the image quality.
The corners / edges get very better avoiding blur/soft/distorntions in the corner/edge.

I did a test with the sigma 20mm 1.8 + 82-52mm step down converter ring + UV filter + Raynox 6600 and I got good results.
This Sigma lens is a 40mm in m43 and it becames about a 27mm f1.8 with the raynox attatched.

I believe you can use the Raynox 6600 with the kit lenses and with the 14mm 2.5 and 20mm 1.7, also with the manual focus fast vintage lenses, it deserves a try.

The secret is to put the UV filter between the lenses, without it the corner/edges get blurred and distorted.
You can remove the glass from the filter and use just the filter ring as a spacer ring.

I can't imagine why you posted this in so many threads. You must be in sales for Raynox... Al

31 posts!!!! He needs to take a break!!!
I'm thinking someone hi-jacked his account, or his brain-not sure which. But seriously, he's up to 31 posts, and all are the exact same post.

All I know is the Raynox 6600 adapter just moved to last place on my "need to by" list.....thanks ;)

To be honest I did not like the results so much. The corners got better using the UV filters but not sharp enough for me...

I was thinking about this setup and maybe the panasonic 20mm 1.7 can give better results due to have a small front lens pupil.

Stoping down the sigma diafragm helps to improve corner sharpness but what we want here is a fast wide angle so I uploaded the f1.8 shots with one uv filter and with two uv filters between raynox and sigma.

A bunch of various wide angle adapters have cycled through here.

I had a Raynox .66 WA and didn't care for it much... got a little too much blooming, blurring, and blah (used mostly on a PD150 and HV30).

About equal in quality is a no-name Chinese 0.5x WA - 52mm thread backside, 62mm thread frontside, and very light. Works pretty well for most lens brands, at least in terms of adaptation. Quality, well, so-so. It's nice for home video and informal stuff.

Best two I have include a 16x9 EX2 0.6x WA originally made for the HVX200, and a Canon WD-58 0.7x. Both minimally degrade the image, although both are glorious leaden bricks that threaten to kill my 20mm with their corpulence - so I don't use them with lenses like that.

You're absolutely right about one thing... wide angles work far better when stopped down. The 20/1.7 + Chicom 0.5x actually takes decent landscapes when working at f5.6-11. Open any more than that, and the corners get ugly quick.

Thanks for your advice about WAs
The chinese can be a good option, if it does not do barrel distortion...
the 16x9 and canon WD58 seems to be a little expensive for this solution because the goal here is to be cheap...

but it seems the Seb Farges Pentax 6mm C-Mount review shows a good solution for getting 31mm field of view... the widest rectilinear low budget solution I can found for now.

Doesn't using an adapter like this one defeats the purpose of using high quality glass. A fix focal ends up looking worse than a zoom lens...
