Raynox 1.8 telephoto adapter-Very Good!

I am posting this from the hotel and will edit when I get home next week with a link with footage.
I shot an hour of kite surfing with "Brian Irie Man Talma" The Action Man at Silver Sands in Barbados with my new Raynox 1.8 Telephoto adapter.the Raynox HDP-9000EX. It is awesome for this type of work on the HMC 150. When you need to be on the end and get what is happening "Way out there" it is the great and affordable. Brian Talma was amazing and knew exactly what he needed to do for the camera and gave me some amazing moves, incredible air and followed the same path every time so it will all cut nicely.
I know there are a lot of Century Precision Optics users and fans out on dvxuser but Raynox is an excellent lens, clean and clear. Not a zoom thru situation, it will vignette if yo u back off the end of your stock lens but it gets you out there with a clean image and comes with a nice case.
Just an fyi of my experience with the lens.

Brian...do you have link for this lens?

I tried a cheap eBay deal and was very disappointed...(no surprise, right?)

Thanks...

The review on B&H says you should have rails, due to the size...is this true?

It is not a bad idea. I didn't use any but will if I do anything that requires me to take the lens off the tripod. Unlikely though when you are that "far out" 10mm move at your end is a great distance at the end of the lens. You should check out the Raynox site and the info there too.

Wow is right...that thing looks huge. Cool though.

So its 1.8 and the Century Optics one is 1.6. Seems like a lot of size difference for only .2x difference.

What, "operationally" is the difference between the two? Maybe some differences in the zoom through? I just am interested because I am in the market for one of these and wondering which to go with.

I too say bring on the footy. Look forward to that.

Sorry guys still in Barbados and shooting long days. I will check for you Ed I will be shooting with it on Monday. I will post as soon as I get a minute but that will probably be when I get home Friday. As I mentioned it is not suited for much zoom work best for long stuff.

Looks nice Brian. I had the century on the HVX and was great. the one for the 150 is way too expensive. This little jobby looks interesting and cheap. 150 bucks. I might give this one a try and see how it does. I'm sure it won't be as good... but sometimes I need a run and gun long lens and one that I don't care so much about.

cheers

That lens looks interesting to a low budget operation like mine, Justyn...
Please post up a review if you get it....

I will Bob. At that price if it's giving Okay results then it would be worth it. I'm in the same boat now with spending money. I need to get the most bang for the buck. I'm going to pick up a cheap fisheye as well. I just got pissed at Century for not making any adapters to convert my HVX products. I had a nice tele and fish from them, but I don't want to spend 2 grand to get both... espeically when I am thinking of getting a DSLR. I could pick up some nice glass for those and not just adapters.

I have tried these things on my consumer cam. They loose focus on the outside edge...and you had to zoom in like you were looking thru a tunnel. Do these lens have the same issues?

Brian, did you ever post footage with this tele adapter? I'd like to see how it worked out for you; not to mention some kiteboarding footy. :D

Just bought the lens, its awsome, only issue is you cant zoon out too much. starts vignetting at about z90. i shoot surfing si this might be a problem if its a long waves and ccomes super close. But otherwise its amazing!!!!!!!!!! nice to have the biggest lens on the beach sometimes!!!
