Raylight, P2 Import & legacy Stuff....

I've been pretty much blown away with the workflow that Raylight allows with the HVX.

As Raylight is such a new product I have lots of clips that predate it which due to space and weight issues are currently sat on hard drives as imported FCP Quick Time files. Is there any way that I can transfer them back into MXF files with the metadata intact? They were originally exported via XML from P2 Log.
Cheers

Thanks, well, it has been slow to catch on.

If you did not save the XML files in the CLIP folder then I believe the metadata is lost.

IN about a month or we are going to port our P2 Maker application from Windows to Mac, that will allow you to archive an edited movie in MXF format. Using that you could convert the Quicktimes back into MXF files if you wished.

The mind boggles as to why!! More advertising I say

No, there not, unfortunately.... real bummer that as I have litterally 1000's of clips that I'd like to index via the clip metadata. Is it possible to manually rebuild and then link to a clip?

Will that be an Intel only app? I travel with an old Powerbook! ;)

Since I first heard about Raylight I've been taking the hit on the storage issue and so have both imported Quicktimes and MXF's saved. Being able to go totally MXF is excellent!

Finally!!! Will P2 maker be a free add on to Raylight or a seperate paid for product? Also at what point will Raylight require a paid for upgrade?

Reason I ask is that I'm flying out to Central America next month (with HVX) for an overland 'hike' to Lima in Peru and could wait till I got back if there were better features at a higher price.
Cheers and keep up the fantastic work!!!

Any issues with the MAC version of Raylight running with FCS 2
and a MacBook Pro??

No, it was developed on a MacBook Core 2 Duo, features Universal Binary, and each release is also tested on a G5 tower. Works great with all versions of FCP > 5.0 and with all processor types Intel, G5 and G4. The Operating system requirements are OS 10.4 or later version, and Quicktime 7 or later version.

Yes, with P2 Maker. You would edit the annotations in QT Pro (see Window, Show Movie Properties, Annotations), then run it through P2 Maker which converts annotations to metadata as it converts the quicktime to MXF and XML.

No it is universal binary: Intel, G5, G4.

It will be the same product, a free upgrade, all of our products are upgradable free, although sometimes the price goes up for new licenses.

I don't know if we can hold the $95 price for too long, so I would encourage anyone on the fence to get it now.

One question. If I buy the Raylight ver this week and then next month
buy a new computer, can I transfer the software to the new computer?

HVXGuy: absolutely

CacheMoney: no, they are 2 different products that happen to have the same name. Someday we will offer a bundle that has all the Raylight products for both Windows and Mac. Not sure when, though.

Hey Marcus,
So I install now and then when I get my new puter
do I need to uninstall Raylight in the old MAC?
Or do I just install in the new MAC and re-activate?
I know in Windows when installing a version in a new
puter is a major pain.

There is no installation or activation for Raylight/Mac. You just download
it and run it.

Thanks,
I bought it today and finished an edit....
Very slick. It is even easier than the PC version.
One question....
say someone just gives me .mxf files...
Can I use Raylight MAC to read them?
