Raylight for Quicktime

The Raylight Decoder for Quicktime has been released.
http://dvfilm.com/raylight/decoder/raylightDecoderUnzip.exe

It decodes Apple Quicktime DVCPROHD format for PC's. It has been tested with 720p, 1080i60 and 1080i50 formats, progressive or interlaced. It's at present a software-based decoder and so runs slower than the Apple decoder on typical Macs which use hardware acceleration.

For full-size, full quality real-time playback of the 720/24P format for example, you must have a Intel Core 2 Duo processor or equivalent.

The quality can be controlled with the Raylight control panel if you have the Raylight system (release version or demo) installed. Raylight Blue or Raylight Yellow are supported by the Quicktime decoder, but not Red.

You can read more about it here:

So, is this a quicktime codec for the PC version of Quicktime? Or a file converter to convert from Apple QTs to PC .mov files?

Marcus!!! You're making it very difficult for us in the training DVD biz to put out a product that's up-to-date!!

:)

Works beautifully, by the way . . .

It's an add-on to Quicktime for Windows. So you can copy a Mac-rendered
DVCPROHD Quicktime to a PC (or download it) and then play it back
with the Quicktime Player.

The cool thing is, Quicktime is now a universal playback format for DVCPROHD.

You can also use it to bring Apple DVCPROHD quicktimes into Windows After
Effects, or in fact directly into any program on the PC that reads quicktimes like
Vegas or Premiere.

That is Great news...! Wouldn't this make DVRACK even more user friendly and appealing to those of us on macbooks? I've held off for a while in picking one up, but this might cynch the deal.. Any thoughts? I would use DVRACK and then FCP to edit.. both on same comp.

Will this little gem continued to be optimized for speed in playback?

1080i and 720p?

Yes, always thinking about how to make it faster.

Won't run on PPC, though, eh? Pity. What is the technical limitation that causes this situation?

But good news for you Intel Mac owners!

The decoder relies on SSE2/MMX (AMD 64/Intel P4 128-bit) instructions for
parallel processing.
