Raylight confuses and confounds me

Hi all,

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to use Raylight and organize my clips w/o using P2CMS? I'm using a G5 Mac with the P2 files on an external drive.

The tutorial on Dvfilm's website says to rename the clips using P2CMS and then import the clips into FCP, but now P2CMS is only supported by the Intel Macs. I'm afraid if I rename the files in FCP I'm going to screw something up. Of course I can always import using log and transfer with FCP, but heck I paid for the Raylight software, I might as well figure out how to use it.

thanks in advance!

There are several ways, but using P2CMS on an Intel MacBook is the best.

You can also name the shots by editing (with Text Edit) the UserClipName and ProgramName tags in the XML file. Then scan the clips with Raylight.

Also if you have a PC laptop, you can use that to name the clips using P2 Viewer or P2CMS for Windows.

You can also pre-load the metadata in the camera using the SD card. That is described in Barry's HVX200 book or in an article somewhere on DVXuser, perhaps someone can provide the link.

If you need more assistance I would try the DVFilm support line.
