Raylight and Apple Color.

So I'm trying to figure out a workflow for an HVX 200a doing a short/feature film.

Raylight helps say HDD space but I plan on export from FCP to Color so my question is.... Does raylight cause the entire FCP 2.0 suite to recognize MXF files or just make them ediatable.

If they dont work in color, whats the best way to export to color creating only the quicktime files you need with handles to do coloring with?

Nope- Color has no awareness of MXF or many other quicktime codecs. I'd bump out to ProResHQ or Uncompressed for Color.

Now I'm pretty good with FCP, but is there a way to convert your files after you edit......meaning like a batch convert, but it only converts the sections of the clips in your timeline....with like 3 or 5 sec handles?

A lot of the time I have a couple 10 or 20 min clips that I edit down, yet when I do the batch convert is works the whole clip, not the edited version. I've found work arounds but I feel like there has got the be a better way.

Yup you can do that using the Media Manager tool - highlight all the media in your timeline, go file - media manager - from the drop down select 'recompress' - select your codec. - deselect include master clips outside selection - select delete unused media from duplicate clips - use handles and set a duration - select the duplicate project check box and then set a media destination..

Thanks again for the help.

Joe, does "select delete unused media from duplicate clips " not delete the original media? I guess the name speaks for itself but it seems like "deselect include master clips outside selection " would do the same thing. Wheres my FCP manual......

Whats the purpose of "select the duplicate project check box and then set a media destination" Does is create a new FCP project with only the converted media with handles in the timeline leaving the original intact?

Regards,

James
