Just finished post on a project we shot for a San Francisco based Company called Starcity. Shot mostly on the Canon 50mm L with a 1/4 BPM. Recorded externally to a 7Q+ CLOG2 4K. No lighting except practical and existing.

If you shoot on the C300MKII in CLOG2 your best asset will be a monitor with Falsecolor. Set your black level to 15-20 IRE and don't expose anything you don't want grainy below it. Your shots will come out great. The 1/4 BPM filter really blooms the highlights and does you a lot of favors as well.

Happy to answer any questions!

Do you find the real 1/4 bpm much better than adding in post?

I always wondered why there isn't a false colour option on the C300+, surely they could chuck it in there.

Using the real 1/4 bpm has two advantages that adding the effect in post can not achieve:

#1 It optically lowers the contrast of your scene. This in turn raises your low level IRE's and gives you room in post to push and pull your image with less noise in the shadows.

#2 It blooms and diffuses the highlights to give you an ever so slight bit more detail in them

Sorry IMO most of this looks way to flat to have any appeal - have you op a broadcast safe file and put it on the web?

A flat and muted grade is exactly the look we were going for. We're not worried about broadcast safe levels since this is for web not broadcast.

Why'd you go for a flat look... last half seems a little better... just skipped forward to see if it remained flat the whole time.

The storyline for the piece is about a girl searching for her community. We wanted the first 3/4 of the film to be muted and flat to be reflective of how her life is before she finds what she's looking for.

We could have absolutely crushed the blacks and added in saturation for the whole thing, but then why would our character be searching for a more colorful world? :)
