RAID or JOBD?

i'm thinking of a wiebetech rtx 200 (two-bay hotswappable sata drive enclosure with esata/usb2/fw400/fw800 ports) with two 1TB 7200 sata drives. it seems like a pretty good solution for offloading in duplicate. http://www.wiebetech.com/products/RTX200.php

these enclosures come in a couple of flavors-- set up for raid or jobd. i think the jobd option seems most flexible, because i can always create a software raid, right?

someone with some experience at this told me that raid was actually not a good way to backup footage because if a pair of drives is mirrored, if something bad happens to one, it will happen to the other (like a file becoming corrupt or something). they recommended keeping the drives standalone (in the same enclosure) and using a backup utility to copy the contents of one drive to another. raid seems much easier to me, but i understand his point. to people have thoughts on this?

Check into Caldigit and Dulce systems. JBOD raids work ok but the tuned up boxed RAIDs often blow them away in performance. And you get a nice warranty too.

thanks noahk, i'll check those out.

but, what about the argument against using mirrored raid as an offloading storage solution altogether (that if you mess up or accidentally delete a file from one drive, it's then gone from the other)? i know people have been using this method, so it must be solid, but the argument against it does make a little sense to me, and being new to this kind of storage config i'm curious to hear how raid users would respond.

thanks,
