Hahaha... you are crazy!

I bet even a little soft fill would have helped with the painful flicker effect of the flame. Bad-ass anyway. :)

Hey Latin thanks

Maybe santa will deliver a piece of parchment I can clip onto the front of my $8 worklight haha. But after I read your post I was thinking that everything at Sakura is on fire...your food, the teppanyaki table, fire pit, fire on the walls, so perhaps it works into the motif :)

It is so insane that we can do this, already. I think for fire all you need is tungsten source. I am pretty sure that's what is done. So a small source or two properly placed would have easily blended into the fire's light and not overpowered the flicker of the actual flame.

Maybe, since you are so mobile and sensitive, you might want to look into getting a torch to bring with for lighting (from Switronix). :)

The TL-50 doesn't have the option to replace the head so I would only look at the TL-68 or the TL-88 if it also let's you replace the head. Either of them would have been perfect, both even better. The 68 is "only" $390 so it is a good starting point. It dims, comes with diffusion and tungsten caps, and it has an internal battery, and puts out a tungsten equivalent intensity of 45W, and they have flood and spot heads, so probably your best bet. The 88 is much more powerful (75W) but doesn't have an internal battery. They are both daylight without the tungsten cap on them.

I want to get one or two of them, considering doing a travel docu style project and I think with the 7D these internal battery powered torches would rock.

Dude,

Now THAT is sexy. I'm already imagining the options. But here is what I would do :)

Throw a dimmer potentiometer on to limit the voltage however retain the screw base so it can fit into a standard clamp fixture. Build a lithium pack out of surplus lithium cells. I could get really creative and tie a microprocessor into it to generate pwm to change the color temp but you're only looking at $49.99 plus a socket and minimal hardware to get it started.

Sounds like a new sideline :)

Thanks,
Christopher
