I'd like to restrict this thread to button assignment on the Canon R5C. Feel free to change your mind on button layout at any time and revise opinions freely, but I'd prefer if we don't compare the R5C to other cameras here, or end up discussing the benefits/downsides of AF in general.
I'm curious to hear how other R5C users setup their camera on the button front. I haven't owned a CX00 camera in a while, so I had to spend some time going though the video centric firmware menus and familiarise myself with it. More or less self explanatory as it turned out.
I still feel that the R5C is a bit to small a camera for what it's trying to achieve, and it feels a bit cramped at times, but there are quite a few buttons and it's nice that Canon made an effort to mark each button in two ways, to make it less confusing when setting the camera up once in photo mode and once in video mode.
I strongly feel that to truly make the camera "your own" is to live with it, shoot with it, USE it. With time, the most natural layout will present itself. I the meantime, would anyone like to share how you setup the camera?
I find the AF modes to be of special interest. It's something that I want quick access to and it's important that they do exactly what I want.
Continuous AF vs Continuous around AF point vs One Shot, Face Tracking, Eye Detection, normal Tracking, AF-lock vs AF-lock while pressing a button and so on.
What works for you?
I'm currently evaluating myself and I'm changing my settings around a lot. I'll update this thread with my layout when I have a stronger option of what I find 'works great'.
