My Dvx100 died today. It was my fault...

I killed her, with a cleaning tape. it will cost more to fix it than its worth..... so official its a total loss and an EPIC FAIL.

Sad news!

Just out of curiosity, how'd you do that much damage with a cleaning tape?

My condolences. Mine finally died last Thursday after spending the last few years on life support (i.e. many trips to be repaired) stemming from a freak Monster® energy drink accident. We shared many good times together but, alas, only memories remain.

We need to compile a list of the various ways cameras are dammaged / killed. The one dropped in a lake and the snowboarding mishap are two of my favorites. Although, Death by Energy Drink is pretty great too.

she lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i used my tried and true superstitious technique for repairing electronics... works on ipods, digital cameras, cd players, and now video cameras.

you turn it upside down, and leave it for a day. then drop it from a short distance.

works like a charm 60% of the time.... everytiime......

I haven't used a tape with any of my DVXs in years. I've been using DV Rack (now onlocation). As a result the heads on one DVX show 12 hours and the other 19 hours respectively.

works like a charm 60% of the time.... everytiime......

My interpretation of this is that it works 100% of the time. A full 60% of the time, it has worked "like a charm" while the remaining 40% of the time it has worked, albeit not "like a charm."

Hope this helps.

That sucks dude. I finally decided to sale my DVX100 after 2 feature films a documentary and a bunch of shorts. I was holding on to it for emo reasons and it was time to move on.

At least you still have an HVX200. It's lonely here without the DVX100. And this wasn't the A or B but the original. The first model, the one I shot my first feature on. From a time when people laughed at the idea of 24p video and said would never work. About seven years later most prosumer cameras don't drop without 24p. If it does we will be sure to rip it to shreads as is deserved.

My DVX100 served me well but now someone else is recieving the joy of it's beautiful images and that rocks. But seriously, when that camera dies I don't want to hear about it. I want to believe it's somewhere working and making great images for someone. Although you may want to try a tapeless solution like a Firestore. You may indeed get more use from your DVX.
