Røde Video mic

I have a quick shoot next Thurs/Fri for work, just filming some grad students talking from across a classroom, and I was planning to use my GH1.

Thing is I'd like to get a little better sound, so I was thinking about picking one of these up:

It's cheaper than the stereo one they make ($100) and seem more like a normal shotgun mic which is better for recording across the room. It has some on mic-gain control from what I can tell so hopefully I can find a decent balanced between that and the GH1's auto gain control.

I like the shock-mount type dealie with it.

I assume I can put it into the GH1 with a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter?

I'll mostly be doing dual system for narrative filmmaking with a sound guy with a boom mic, etc, but I figure this will work well for this kind of shoot, will give me better sound to sync to, and will work nicely in a pinch.

Anyone have any thoughts?

The Røde SVM seems nice too as mentioned above but it's $240 instead of $140.

Also I can borrow a Zoom H2 to hook this up to for dual system if that would be better.

The Rode's better than the GH1 mics... BUT... even with the dip switches/gain control, the GH1 AGC is still there. Caveat emptor. But for the price, the Rode is really good.

Yah. Not all 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapters will fit perfectly so you might have to do a little hunting around. Something about that GH1 socket that's a bit too small...

Here's a photo of mine:

Hope it helps.

Great thanks. If I do order the thing (probably have to pay fast shipping to get it by Tuesday) I might just use it for dual system with the H2...hopefully this weekend I'll get a chance to test just the H2...maybe I can put it a little closer or something...I know it's built in sound is somewhat crummy.

Sound is totally important for this shoot "as long as you can hear them" was the criteria I got.
