Hi guys...
not sure where to put this one feel free to move..

Could do with a bit of help here please.

I export a full res quicktime file from FCP to desktop.
Open that file up from the desktop using Quicktime player,
what happens though, if there is animated text that moves across the screen in the video I get jagged teeth, interlace, horizontal lines appearing on/over the text as it moves.

I open up the same film/video with Real player and it doesn't happen.

Any help with be very very much appreciated :dankk2:

Thank you

Indy

Try exporting using the compressor program. I've had a lot of problems exporting directly
to QT from FCP. When I used the compressor program, it solved all my problems.

Help us with some specifics.

1. What codec and sequence settings in FCP?

2. What codec did you export to?

3. Have you set the QT Player to the high quality settings?

Hi Mr Bill, thanks for your help and very quick reply...:dankk2:

What I usualy do (not sure if its the correct way),
I export from final cut
File - Export - quicktime movie
This is put onto my desktop.
I then import that into DVDSP and contruct the DVD that way?
I think that encodes as an MPEG2 (if I remember rightly?)

Am I right in thinking that you export from compressor as an MPEG2 , which then gives you two files, one for video the other for audio then import that into DVDSP.
Some of the company's I edit for want DVD'S but they also want quicktime .movs.
I have experimented with H.264 but those lines still appear.
Any other suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Indy

Hi David S,

The latest one which is giving me problems is

SEQUENCE SETTINGS

DV Pal 5:4
720X576
Dominance : upper
25

QUICKTIME VIDEO SETTINGS
Compressor
Interlaced
4:3

VIDEO PROCESSING
8 bit YUV

File - Export - Quicktime movie
Settings - Current Settings
(Unclicked) recompress all frames
(Ticked) Make Movie self contained

Quicktime player settings..urm not being funny but I can't see the option for high quality settings...

Hope that all the info and thanks again

If you haven't had this problem before, I am wondering if the file is just corrupt. Have you tried to re-export it the same way? I export that way all the time (except the PAL part) with no problem at all.

Hi Jim...

I've only recently been using moving texts and wipes for transitions (it happens on the wipes as well), I was just using cuts on moving footage so I hadn't seen it appear before. Like i say though it doesn't happen if I play the same quicktime file with 'Real Player'.

'File corrupt'..urm how do you mean and is there a way of telling?
're-export it the same way'....sorry how do you mean?

Thanks :dankk2::dankk2:

PS I have just done an HD test using the same text motions and wipe transitions and those horizontal interlace lines do not appear which is great,
however it would still be nice to know what is happening.
The sequence settings I used on the HD test were

Frame Size : 960X720 HD 960X720 16:9
Pixel Aspect Ratio : HD 960X720
Field dominance: None
25

Compressor DVCPRO HD 720p 50

Just open your timeline again then export as a QT file the way you did before and see if it works. I don't usually have to render before export for a QT file (although I do for .wmv files), but you might try that as well. Although FCP should render your transitions automatically when out putting to a QT file.

Sometimes an app just goofs up. Don't know if it will work, but then again, you should not be having this problem to begin with.

wooooo hooooooo

Thanks Jim...

Ok I seemed to have fixed it

After the HD test I figured that it has to be an interlace problem,
so I did a small PAL test with the same wipes and text motions,
and the same problem was happening.
I went into quick time player and found the 'Show Movie Properties'
'High Quality' was ticked but 'Single Field' and 'De Interlace' was not ticked,
so I clicked them and saved the changes to the .mov and the problem was sorted....

Jeeeeeezuz...lol...

Indy my friend, I'm so pleased you're not dead!

;-)

I am late to this discussion but I had that EXACT same problem before too, and my fix was the same as yours.

MrBILL is right - although it is a complex program, COMPRESSOR is really good.

Good to hear you got it working. Yes, MPEG 2 is the usual DVD setting. I think you can do single pass or duoble pass. Audio will be a seperate file.
