As we boldly step into the new tapeless workflow, at my shop we're concerned about successfully on-lining using an Avid Adrenaline HD system -- which is not in house yet -- after off-lining using Avid Express Pro. The issue is timecode on the Quicktime DVCProHD files shot with the HVX200.
Workflow: A small portion of our program's footage is shot on the HVX200. I backed up/converted to Quicktime in the field, using FCP HD. Quicktime preserves the original timecode of the .MXF files. The editor imported into ExpressPro directly from these DVCProHD files, and Avid downconverted them to anamorphic SD (DV25) OMFI files. Cue scary music: the OMFI files are stripped of their original timecode and all start at 00:00.
My concern is that when it comes to on-lining, the Adrenaline will do its batch import of the original QT files -- easy, since the file names are identical -- but unlike the offline system, it will recognize and honor the timecode values on the HD files. So all the edit points will be off -- way, way off.
Anybody have experience with this workflow or simply have enough experience with importing QT files using the Adrenaline to speak to this issue? Thanks!
