Hi all,

I want to purchase the glidecam 4000 but I read on a review that it would be best to get a quick release plate as well.
Anybody know if this on will fit on a BogenMan. 516 Head. ? link

Thanks any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Another question is the HDglidecam version any better .The cameras I'll be using are the HMC 150 / canon Xha1 and EX1.

Thanks again

the quick plate is for convenience such as detaching camera for storage. you can attach virtually any quick release plate out there. that bogen plate will work fine w/ your prosumer cam.

not sure what you're doing w/ the 516 head though.

That's pretty much what you need*. You don't need to be able to mount this on the 516 head. The quick-release assembly will mount on the Glidecam, and the plate should be interchangeable with the one on your 516 head. In fact, you should be able to use the plate from your 516 head with the quick-release assembly.

*I'm having a hard time getting a model number for the plate that comes with the 516, so before you purchase it you might want to contact B&H or Bogen and confirm that this is the right quick-release assembly. They have another model with a different plate... I'm sure that one or the other will be right for your system.

The idea here is to be able to move from the tripod with 516 head to the Glidecam without having to remove the plate, so it has to be a quick-release assembly that is compatible with the existing plate. I have a Glidecam 4000 and a Bogen 501 head with my DVX and I have the quick-release assembly on my Glidecam. Makes the transition much easier.

And what's wrong with the 516 head?

^Since the guy got 3 camera, I dont think it's really necessary to detach camera. Even w/ markings, I still find it wasting time trying to balance the steadicam bc I it's pretty critical to have it well-balanced.

but no, it doesnt fit onto the 516. its made for smaller ones like 501 or 503.

I dont know, what is wrong w/ 516 head?

But they are three completely different kinds of camera. Having the quick-release on the Glidecam, plus a couple of spare plates, means interchangeability across multiple cameras. Yeah, the balance can be a pain in that situation, but I can see where each camera might have its time and reason to be on or off the Glidecam.

Bogen Manfrotto does make a slightly larger model of the same quick-release assembly that looks like it might be compatible. They don't consistently give the model numbers of quick-release plates, so it's hard to check the product literature for compatibility.

I was asking because you said...

... which reads as if you're slamming the 516 head.

Thanks guys, been kinda busy.
Will contact Bogen .
I won't be using the three cameras at the same time.
I know the 516 with 525legs is a tad to much for the hmc 150, but I like it.
Thinking about adapters and small jibs fo the future.

I've a Provista FM18 tripod and a Glidecam 4000 Pro. I must have a quick release plate as there is no way in the world I can use my Glidecam - balancing being a nightmare. The question is - will Bogen 577 work for me? B&H seems to have more off days than on days. Must be fun to work for that company!

Here is the tripod link: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...ford_PROVISTA7518B_Pro_Vista_Tripod_with.html

Looks like my plate is 2 1/4" wide. Is this the standard width for a quick release plate? Video sites like B&H really lack in giving out spec. I wish if they could follow Newegg.com's search and spec features.

I wonder if they have a quick release assembly or something that would work for a Libec tripod?

Im wondering the same exact thing, will the 577 fit the Fm18 head?

Anyone?

Beauller?

Just a Heads Up:
The 577 quick release is different from the 357 quick release.
The bases on both appear to be the same but look closely. The 577 has a narrower plate and a thick bushing on the tension screw to tighten it. The 357 plate is wider and has a thinner bushing on the tension screw. One plate will not work on the other base. I should have caught this but bought one in a pinch thinking I would have two quick release bases and found out the hard way they don't interchange---(unless you modify the thick bushing on the 357).

I own both the FM18 on my tripod and the 501HDV head on my monopod. The plates are different and are not interchangeable. So this means the 577 assembly would not work with the FM18. I have yet to find an assembly that would work with the FM18. I will probably end up equipping my tripod, monopod, and glidecam with the 357 assembly or the Giottos M621 assembly.
