Quick questions, want to load firmware, yes read the FAQs.

Yes yes, FAQ's and lots of different answers, versions, etc and I've read them.

I have a virgin GH1. I have ptool 3.37d. I've download the 1.32 Pana firmware and loaded in the Ptool. The camera is sitting on virgin 1.2 and lens 1.1. I assume updating from lens 1.1 to 1.2 will have no effect on the hack?

Am I required to check "Version Compare Patch" which as I understand will reset to 0.0.

From what I see, if I want to revert to the original 1.32 later and didn't check it, I will would need to re-load any firmware with "Version Compare Patch" checked which will set to 0.0 and then do a second load to over-write the 0.0. The easier way is to load with Version compare patch selected the first time. But for me I'm going from 1.2 to hacked 1.32 so I can leave it unchecked. I just need t know that the procedure I described that I can go from the hacked back to original by reloading anything to reset to 0.0 and finally loading the original 1.32.

Why have "Version change". What does it do in relation to "Version Compare Patch"? Why have version change at all. Also just default "Version Compare patch" to "checked" all the time and have a different feature for "Load Original Firmware"? Is the point so that you can see something other than 0.0 show up?

Am I understand these settings?

Short answer: you should check the version compare patch, and don't need to change the version number.

Long answer: yes, you can load the hacked 1.32 without checking either, but then you will not be able to reload with either the original 1.32 or a differently-hacked 1.32 without changing the version number on those. (As you have deduced, you could load something with the version compare patch and a higher version number, then load the original 1.32. It seems silly to go that route though.)

If you had already loaded the original 1.32 (because you needed the patch from Panasonic), then you would have to set the version number to 1.33 or the hack wouldn't load. Since you haven't loaded the original 1.32, you don't need to change the version number.

Ok Here's the break-down, correct if I'm wrong

Ok Here's the break-down, correct if I'm wrong

If you have a firmware below 1.32 such as my new GH1 with 1.2 and PTool 3.36 or above:

If you want to install a modified version, you have several choices:

If you have 1.2 firmware, you can simply name the modified 1.32 firmware output from ptool to GH1__1.21.bin or any number in the file name less than 1.32 and in your camera it will show body version 1.21 or the number you specified.

OR

If you check "Version Compare patch" in ptool, when you install the modified firmware, it will set the version to 0.0 and in your camera the body version will show this number (0.0). This way the next time you install a modified version or original version, you simply load it since any number is higher than 0.0.

If you have 1.32 currently installed and want to install a modified firmware you can leave Version Compare patch unchecked, but you must increment the modified firmware by 1, thus GH1__132.bin becomes GH1__133.bin because the camera expects the next update to be a new version. If Panasonic releases a firmware higher than 1.33, you will not have an issue. If Panasonic relases 1.33 and that is the modified version number you are currently on, you must install a modified firmware and check version compare patch so that it resets to 0.0. Then you can install any version since anything is higher than 0.0.

If you have a modified firmware showing 1.32 installed and want to install the original Panasonic 1.32, you must create a new modified firmware with Version Compare patch checked an increment the file number to GH1__133.bin. This will reset the body version to 0.0. From there you can now copy the original firmware 1.32 directly from Panasonic onto the SD card and load. This will then show 1.32 as the body version.

gosh hate to be redundant sounding am just confused

I am using Ptool 3.36 and on my 10 increments

I checked the version change of Ptool 3.37D and placed the increment to 0 and uploaded the original panasonic firmware 1.32.It still wont go.Should the new file be gh__338D.bin? and increment to 0? or should I just continue with the bin# from ptool 3.36

The instructions don't say use Version Change in your case.

The instructions don't say use Version Change in your case.

The instructions say use "Version Compare patch" option to reset everything back to 0.0. From what I'm reading, you don't have to click "Version Change".

So if your up to something like 1.42, write another firmware with version compare patch checked and it should reset to 0.0. If I'm reading correctly, if you want to install something after that, you can keep version compare patch checked and it will always appear as 0.0 OR you can uncheck it in the case you want to install something so it will give it a version number.

Upping from 1.2 to modified 1.32 right now

Upping from 1.2 to modified 1.32 right now

I used ptool3.37d and checked version compare patch, and modified some other parameter. I saved the modified firmware file as GH1__132.bin in a different directory than the original. I copied the modified firmware to my SDHC card and put it in the camera, turned it on and press the play button.

The camera recognized my update as 1.3. After the upgrade completed, now in the camera menu "Version Disp "it shows BODY FIRMWARE Ver. 0.0.

With this if I want to revert, to the original firmware I just copy the original panasonic 1.32 firmware to the SD and don't use ptool at all. This will upgrade from 0.0 to 1.32. If I want to do another firmware mod to test something, I just keep version compare patch checked and it will always show 0.0.

Ok I'm going to do the lens firmware from 1.0 to 1.2....NOTE not using ptool for this as it doesn't support lens firmware modification and there is no "hack" for the lens firmware, do the lens firmware according to Panasonic original instructions.

did all what was instructed

did all what was instructed

i did all this why does my camera not recognize my parameters and settings in the new ptools 3.37D? Am I doing something wrong? I checked version change and it said 1 and check the version compare patch. then I saved it in a separate folder as gh__132.bin but still no camera recognition

Try this

Try this

Try not checking version change. If you check version change, you have to save the file as GH1__133.bin if that is the next version as I understood but in your case you said your on your 10th patch? so what GH1__141.bin? For me I just checked version compare patch and saved the file as GH1__132.bin and did not iterate the version.

got it finally, just had to place increment continues to my last ptool and next to 132.bin file which is 133.bin. Does that mean next time around i will just check version compare patch and no more version change and that my next file number should be 134.bin?

Alright guys. This is already on FAQ, and I'll update to accommodate Version Compare. Every other post is "how do I install" when there's already so many thread explaining over and over. Here's an explanation for this thread.

If you selected Version Compare, your FW would be 0.0
If your firmware is reading 1.3 or 1.2 or anything other than 0.0 then you need to do this:

Format card in camera. Load ptool, load firmware.

Select Version Change: Change this number to 50 or 10, or 100 it doesn't matter. But if you've used the ptool before and can't get it to load, then chances are you forgot what your increment is at, so best to start a high number, that way you know exactly what number your're on and it's probably higher than any number you've chosen thus far.

CASE SENSITIVE AND YOU NEED __
Save your FW GH1__150.bin Or save it GH1__133.bin Or GH1__140.bin
It doesn't matter as long as it's greater than or equal to GH1_132.bin
Try not to save over original, you'll need it later. And be sure to name the file exactly the way I have, or else it wont work. Include __ that's 2 under scores.

Select Version Compare: After this is checked, any new FW's you load from here on out, you can skip the Version Change patch and not have to worry which increment you're on.

Literally as simple as reading this post, unless you're bad at reading, and in that case, you shouldn't load the firmware anyway.

thanks for the final info (and for your tireless patience)... now I am lock and low. my FW is now 0.0 and I am in the new ptool 3.37D ...now from this point no more checking the version change and just check version compare patch with file number greater than the original 1.32.bin

way to go soldier. 8)
