FS7: Quick question from set about hot shoe

Just noticed that my "shoe" on the back part of the handle is gone. (I removed it and screwed in an arm to hold monitor. Need to change the boom to 2 lav receivers. but the front shoe has contacts on it... Is it powered? (I want to install a metal Y thingy that uses 1 shoe mount but Y's off so I can mount 2 separate receivers. but obviously don't want to fry anything. Is it OK to install metal there or is it hot? (Powered)

Yes, it's Sony's smart shoe, can't remember what it's called. It can both power and do other tricks, such as give you two additional audio inputs etc...

don't know if it's a problem installing metal there though...

It's called a Multi-Interface Shoe or MI-Shoe.
You shouldn't have any issues attaching metal devices to it. I don't use it myself with non-MI-Shoe devices, but Sony doesn't warn about it in the manual and I've never heard of a problem.

Buy yourself an adapter like this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00O1PZ9HE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There are plenty of similar ones, but this particular model really fits and holds securely. The only caveat is it elevates the CoG of attached device, so a heavy one like a LED lamp is too high. PS: I'd never put metal shoe into the MIS!
