I own a DVX100B, but this question more applies for another camera, but I assume the answer should be the same for all cameras. Simply put, does playback on the camera wear down the heads just as much as recording on the camera?
Yes it does wear down he heads, and it does more than recording on them, espacially rewinding or fast forwarding...get a cheap mini dv camera for capturing and viewing the footage you have shot.
